2024 NHL free agency tracker: news, contracts, grades, discussion

The 2024 NHL offseason is off to a hot start. Just four days after the Florida Panthers won the Stanley Cup, an epic 2024 NHL Draft took place at the Sphere in Las Vegas, featuring several huge trades with 225 prospects finding new homes.

Now it’s time for the league’s 32 front offices to add to their rosters via free agency.

Here’s our constantly updated tracker, listing every player signed as well as analysis of the biggest deals and discussion of what could be next.

Note that the latest deals are at the top, indicated by date.

Former Conn Smythe winner Jonathan Marchessault is heading to the Predators on a five-year, $25 million contract.


Veteran scoring winger Tyler Toffoli is heading back to California after signing a four-year, $24 million deal with the Sharks.


After winning the Stanley Cup, defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson has signed a four-year, $14 million contract with the Maple Leafs.


Veteran netminder Eric Comrie is back with the Jets by agreeing to terms on a one-year, $825,000 contract.


The Blackhawks have focused on surrounding Connor Bedard with some veteran help this summer, including Teuvo Teravainen (three years, $16.2 million), Pat Maroon (one year, $1.3 million) and Craig Smith (one year, $1 million ) Are included.


After trading for Jakub Chykrun, the Capitals continued to add to their blue line, signing Matt Roy to a seven-year, $38.5 million contract.


The Kraken have landed one of the top free agents on the market by signing defenseman Brandon Montour to a seven-year, $50 million deal.


29-year-old forward Sam Lafferty is headed to Buffalo after signing a two-year, $4 million contract with the Sabres.


Strong forward Jordan Martinook will not be leaving Carolina and has signed a three-year, $9.15 million deal with the Hurricanes.


The Devils have added a key player to their blue-line group, signing former Hurricanes blueliner Brett Pace to a six-year, $33 million contract.

Veteran forward Kasperi Kapanen is re-signing with the Blues, agreeing to a one-year, $1 million deal to remain in St. Louis.


Restricted free agent forward Connor McMichael has signed a two-year, $4.20 million deal with the Capitals, extending his trade relationship.


Eric Johnson played 67 games for the Flyers in 2023-24, and given his new one-year, $1 million deal with the club, he will play a few more games in 2024-25.


The Maple Leafs traded veteran defenseman Chris Tanev for an exclusive negotiating window, and ended that relationship by signing him to a six-year, $27 million contract on Monday. The team also finally confirmed a new deal for RFA netminder Joseph Woll (three years, $10.98 million).

The Utah Hockey Club continues to work on their blue line, re-signing RFA Sean Darzy to a four-year, $24 million contract.


In need of a blue line boost this summer, the Maple Leafs will start with a contract of their own, signing RFA Timothy Liljegren to a two-year, $6 million contract.
