A blowout from McDonald: Experts are undervaluing Collin Morikawa (10-1), who is priced too low to return in such a deep and talented field. Morikawa finished T-4 at last weekend’s Scottish Open but has not won any of his 17 tournaments this season. The 27-year-old has won just one of his 61 tournaments since the start of the 2021-22 PGA Tour season, making his 10-1 odds with a deep major field looking quite surprising.
Morikawa is an Open Championship winner, doing so in 2021, but has since missed the cut in each of his last two Open Championship events. Morikawa is fourth in the FedEx Cup standings with seven top-10 finishes in 17 events. He’s not playing terrible golf, but his inability to pick up wins in even some of the lesser PGA Tour events doesn’t give McDonald much confidence in Morikawa winning the 2024 Open Championship at 10-1 odds. On the other hand, McDonald likes Brooks Koepka at 25-1. The 34-year-old hasn’t performed well in major events this season, but fans know he has the potential to take his game up a notch in the big spotlight.
Koepka has won the US Open twice and the PGA Championship three times, including his most recent major win in 2023. He has never competed at Royal Troon, but has made a top-10 Open Championship finish at St. Andrews in 2015 (T10).
