McIntyre’s career is full of heavy moments. He received his first WWE Championship at WrestleMania in the middle of the pandemic. Bloodline eliminated him from the Ultimate Speedway for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Strike at the Citadel. Current International Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest stole his name at WrestleMania 40 and Punk eliminated him from his rematch with Priest on Saturday.
Strike at the Citadel in Glasgow, Scotland featured super matches with Cody Rhodes, AJ Types, Sami Zayn and Chad Gable as well as the crowning of the ancient champion.
CBS Sports was with you throughout the match with live updates, highlights and grades as the action went on, I’m sick.
2024 WWE Strike At The Citadel Impact:
Undisputed WWE Championship – Cody Rhodes (c) vs. AJ Types (“I Quit” Contest): The referee demanded that the superstars advance to neutral corners, but this did little to soothe my illness. Rhodes threw his signature crisis kick seconds into the contest, giving opponents a competitive edge. Typos countered this and highlighted how Rhodes’ emotions could potentially overrule his tactical accuracy. The action spread around the venue for a while: first outdoors, then in the Society and then in the Manufacturing department, where the dispute became easier for the winner. Back in the ring, Rhodes was the first to attempt to obtain a verbal submission from his opponent by using a figure-four leglock. Types exposes Rhodes’ secret before getting into an awkward argument with Rhodes’ mother, who calls Types abusively at times.
The brutality was so bad that Rhodes was beaten and beaten several times with kendo sticks and belts. The champion lost by force of a crossface. Types demanded the referee call for the bell, however, Legal Expert Types continued the contest until no one said “I quit”. The angry Types threw a bottle of H2O at Rhodes to wake up the champion before handcuffing him. In the second argument, Typhus brutally beats Rhodes with a baton before seducing his rival’s mother. Rhodes’ mother slapped Types more than once. Angry types threatened to hit him with a metal chair before bringing him into the ring.
The type springboarded off the ropes with an extra special forearm however ate metal hair in the face and fell through a desk positioned at ringside. Rhodes moved his hands down his legs and Styles became upset in front of him. Rhodes realized the important thing, took off his clothes and got to work. Rhodes has 3 types of skirmishes, the last of which is the spiked type skirmish on a metal chair. The referee attempted to perform a test on Tykes but Rhodes refused. Rhodes handcuffed the challenger to the ropes and stung him with chair shots. Types refused to go at first, although accepted that the incoming Rhodes had threatened to ram metal stairs into his head. Rhodes wins the contest, but the upcoming meeting with his mother makes him want to throw the stairs at Types’ head anyway.
After the match, Bloodline attacked Rhodes, however Kevin Owens and Randy Orton saved him. It was a clever name to open the cardboard with. The society dined at speed switches and heavy places. The wickedness of Rhodes and Theseus clearly encouraged this condition. The post-match scenario was a nice touch to set up Rhodes’ closest storyline. Final result: Rhodes def. Types of verbal dedication used to hold the Undisputed WWE Championship. grade A
WWE Girls Tag Crew Championship – Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill (Captain) vs. Alba Fyre and Isla Daybreak vs. Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark: Champions started making waves. Belair showcased her athletic talent and Cargill’s energy in defeating the two fighters together. A sweet spot saw Cargill hoist Daybreak onto his shoulders, catch Baszler in the air and hit a simultaneous Samoan Release and Fallaway Slam. Bellaire and Cargill jointly adopted a layout of maneuvers. There was once a temporary misunderstanding, although it was a fake display of their growing chemistry. The dominance of the Champions put pressure on their challengers to regroup and combine forces to crush the Champions. Their union was successful but short-lived as Stark and Baszler became his fellow challengers. The community erupted as momentum turned against homegrown players Fyre and Dawn, who took out Baszler and Stark with constant rapid-fire and high-flying strikes. In the end the champions were back in the mix and captured the dirty spot layouts from all 3 groups. Belair hit a 450 Knee Spray on Baszler in a spectacular spot amid the chaos. Cargill had Baszler killed in a tandem maneuver, but Don played spoiler. Cargill countered with a German suplex at Dawn as Fyre scrambled to protect Baszler.
Ancient conquerors embraced their society because society chanted the slogan “You’re worth it!” A touching date, especially considering that Phair’s mother, Bridgen Mitchell, died while on a car trip to meet her daughter. The competition started well but was later pulled due to miscommunication. Fyre and Daybreak in their home community was poignant, especially considering the tragedy Fyre’s community had been experiencing for some time. Final result: Fire and Daybreak def. Baszler won the title by pinfall. Grade: C+
Intercontinental Championship– Sami Zayn (c) vs. Chad Gable: The technical skills began with some traditional chain wrestling. Zayn got the hang of it early on, prompting Gable to regroup at ringside with Otis and Maxxin Dupree. Gable suggested that there was a plan involving Alpha Academy. Zain also called Gable’s scholars and urged them to listen to society and separate from Gable. A slap to the face by Gable escalated the controversy. The challenger’s Olympic wrestling background served him well as he tracked and centered Zayn’s left hand. A spectacular spot saw Zayn hit a springboard moonsault while Gable was sitting at ringside. Zane fights with a one-handed Michinoku Motive Force that efficiently boosts his blow even during a difficult maneuver. Hand had trouble playing the game as Zane could not take advantage of the incoming heavy attacks. Gable’s technical skills allowed him to hold multiple ankle locks that additionally incapacitated the champion.
Alpha Academy’s plan became clear as Gable harassed the referee. Dupree returned again to confront Zayn with the Intercontinental belt, but could not advance. Gable scolds Dupree in the corner but backs off as the champion actually stops Zayn with a Helluva Kick. Gable applied a distraction to counter the Chaos Principle Rolling Deadlift German Suplex, which led to an exciting similar fall. Gable decided to walk out of the ring and proceed to berate Derpy. An angry Otis came between them and got in front of Gable. Zayn entered over the ropes with a Flipping Senton and accidentally collided with Otis. So Gable faced Zayn and Otis with a moonsault in the open air. Shortly after, Zayn rolled through the Ankle Lock Tri ringside which inadvertently put Gable into Dupree’s injured leg. Otis once got angry. Mighty lost the contest and took Dupree to the rampway. Zayn won the contest by hitting Gable with a Helluva Kick before suffering an ankle injury. An incredible wrestling phenomenon grew through Zayn’s masterclass promotion and a powerful storyline involving Alpha Academy. Zayn defeated. Gable by pinfall to capture the title. grade A
WWE Girls Championship – Bayley (c) vs. Piper Niven: Niven’s energy was an immediate problem but Bayley’s speed, accuracy and experience helped increase the enjoyment levels. Niven’s best friend Chelsea Green was caught trying to interfere in the first half of the competition. Referee Chad Patton immediately ejected Green. Niven did well without her friend and took Bayley down with a senton off the apron. Niven took pains to punish Bayley with working sprays and slams. Bayley eventually hit a lead rope stomach suplex to Bayley through the table. Bayley covered her arms for the pinfall but was disturbed by the return of the referee Green, this time wearing a luchador mask. Bayley floored Green with a baseball slide before turning into an inconsistent Tiger Motive Force for the same fall. The challenger followed up with a delightfully dull hollow slam ringside. A strong crucifix bomb and huge stack gave Bayley the pinfall. A fake contest that gave results regardless of the direct result. Niven looked strong without Green and Bailey shone as the undersized winner. Final result: Bayley def. To bear the name Niven. Grade: B+
Global Heavyweight Championship – Damian Priest (c) vs. Drew McIntyre: McIntyre started making waves in his homeland. The challenger delivered a hammer blow to Priest before attacking the champion with a reversal senton over the ropes at ringside. However, some ophthalmic obstructions slowed McIntyre’s pace to no longer occur. One impressive spot saw Priest get his ankle caught between the lead and center ropes of the event while attempting to springboard off. McIntyre welcomed the mistake and criticized the champion for compromising. McIntyre threw the champ off the ropes, admitting that he would not have been able to win the title if Priest had been tied inside the ropes. Priest hit a smart running kick, however McIntyre responded with a Month Injury DDT for the same fall. Priest skillfully bought his injured ankle, even hitting McIntyre with a Razor Edge on an understructure.
The Giants began to emphasize this with the champion’s forearms looking particularly bad. Priest creates a 360-degree jumping kick event as well as a layout of beautiful kicks at the top and frame to boost your stroke. The fight spilled out into the open and McIntyre shot Priest with a Claymore Kick right across the guard! Back in the ring, McIntyre announced a second Claymore Kick, but Priest got a surprise fall with a South of Heaven Chokeslam. Competition continued to increase as society bought into each business. Priest fought off a lead rope hurricanrana, although his injured ankle gave McIntyre a prime opening for another Claymore Kick. As soon as the priest was shouldered up, Scottish society erupted.
An unexpected confrontation relieved the referee for a short while. McIntyre hits a Claymore Kick and wraps his arm around Priest. A referee entered the ring and counted two but stopped before three. McIntyre looked up and came face to face with CM Punk dressed as a WWE legit. McIntyre pounces on Punk’s throat. Punk hit McIntyre in the groin and was thrown out of the ring. Priest took advantage and hit one last South of Heaven Chokeslam as the latest referee counted 3. There were expectations that Punk would interfere – especially as Logic Ear was banned from ringside on Monday Night Raw. Nonetheless, the execution was swift and neat. It’s disappointing that McIntyre lost another heavy date, especially in his home community, but it should still make for a great rivalry with Punk at SummerSlam. Ultimately the priest also appeared strong as a champion, despite his desire to help. This assistance appears to have dampened his popularity as a transitional champion. Additionally, props to the priest for boosting the ankle, especially if it was not an intentional spot. Priest defeated. McIntyre retained the title by pinfall. grade A
