This autumn, Apple is building ChatGPT into Siri in iOS 18. While most of Apple’s Perception features this year are built in-house by Apple, including most of the new Siri functions, the company has partnered with OpenAI to add the powers of ChatGPT to iOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and iPadOS 18 as an additional AI software.
Here’s everything you need to learn about ChatGPT’s Siri integration.
ChatGPT is being baked into iOS 18, so there won’t be a need to download any alternative apps to enable it with Siri.
What’s more, ChatGPT won’t have any setup process at all. There is a false requirement to develop or join an OpenAI account before entering Siri’s AI career.
Rather, whenever you ask Siri in iOS 18 something that it thinks ChatGPT is best suited to answer, you’ll be given the option to use ChatGPT for that request. Wrong setup important.
One of the two primary tricks that ChatGPIT will benefit iOS 18 customers is is answering “world knowledge” questions that Siri can’t do.

During the WWDC keynote, Apple executive Craig Federighi promised that with iOS 18’s ChatGPT integration, “your requests and information will not be logged.”
This means that OpenAI won’t be able to string together multiple requests from you to create a profile and will potentially sell that data to third parties.
The alternative main part of Apple’s privacy story with its ChatGPT integration is that whenever you generate a Siri request that can tap ChatGPT, you have to give your special permission first.
To make sure your information is only going into ChatGPT when you explicitly want it to, Siri will provide the necessary permission conversations to get your consent.
This difference step makes ChatGPT opt-in rather than opt-out. Additionally, unfortunately, this creates the possibility of exposing a worrisome amount of permission bases.
Hopefully, even if it doesn’t exist initially, Apple will provide a Settings toggle some time to enable the use of ChatGPT without requiring special permissions every time.
Just because you don’t want to know the value of an OpenAI account doesn’t mean you shouldn’t. iOS 18 will give you the option to sign in to your current account when you want.
One advantage of signing in to your account is that your ChatGPT functions through Siri will be closest to that account. This can be useful if you want to secure all such jobs related to OpenAI.
Perhaps an additional important benefit is that if you’re a ChatGPT Plus subscriber, Siri can tap into other features offered by the plan. Flow Plus options are defined based on this web page.
ChatGPIT is not overtaking Siri. Although it is going to complement Apple’s colleague in some key tips. Where Siri has traditionally failed, it will now get help from OpenAI.
This may just be the beginning. Google Gemini is also expected to be integrated with Siri. Ultimately, Siri will likely become the ultimate aggregator of AI assistants. Built on Apple’s own proprietary AI tools, though bolstered by the most efficient means of its competition.
