AMD’s Ryzen 9 9900

AMD Ryzen 9 9900X 12-core CPU delivers 16% unmarried-core efficiency uplift over 7900X, crushes Core i9-14900KS in Geekbench benchmarks

The AMD Ryzen 9 9900X “100-000000662” CPU is a 12-core and 24-thread variant. This chip has a base clock of 4.4 GHz and a spice up clock of up to 5.6 GHz with 76 MB cache. The thing that stands out with this chip is that it has a TDP of 120W which is much lower than the 170W of the Ryzen 9 7900X chips.

Once again, the chip speeds maintain the same increased clock speeds as the Ryzen 9 7900X, with the bottom clock showing a -300MHz relief which once again fits within the 120W energy limit but once more , the 12-core should be able to boast some great multi-threaded features. The TDP comparison between the four chips of this occasion and the previous ones is as follows:

  • Ryzen 9 7950X (170W) -> Ryzen 9 9950X (170W)
  • Ryzen 9 7900X (170W) -> Ryzen 9 9900X (120W)
  • Ryzen 7 7700X (105W) -> Ryzen 7 9700X (65W)
  • Ryzen 5 7600X (105W) -> Ryzen 5 9600X (65W)

Talking about performance benchmarks, the chip was tested on the Geekbench 6 benchmark on an ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E gen motherboard with 32 GB DDR5 memory. The chip was once operating at a peak frequency above 5.6 GHz (5664 MHz). Regarding performance, the Ryzen 9 9900X scored 3401 points in the single-core test and 19,756 points in the multi-core test.

This puts the single-core performance of the AMD Ryzen 9 9900 Is. The testing is quite exceptional for this 12-core segment which is on par with the Core i9-14900K rating around 20,500 points on medium. Compared to the Ryzen 9 7900X 12-core, the Ryzen 9 9900X offers a 16% uplift in single-core and 11% uplift in multi-core tests.

We should also point out that the Intel Core i9 CPUs here have been tested at prior “Intel Baseline Default” settings which further reduce the performance of the chips to ensure a better balance. Those refresh profiles can result in efficiency losses of up to 15% versus normal settings.

These are some remarkable efficiency numbers that, if proven true, demonstrate the really strong single-core efficiency peaks that Zen 5 CPUs will have to deal with. In fact, Geekbench is just an artificial benchmark, so we can’t really gauge its overall performance in a single test, but as we’ve discussed before, expect the overall numbers for the AMD Ryzen 9000 to be very good. . Desktop CPU. According to AMD itself, Geekbench is one of the best conditions for Zen 5’s IPC uplift, with up to a 19% increase compared to Zen 5 as shown in the slide below:

We also covered Cinebench R23 performance numbers a few days ago, which showed some remarkable potential from the same chip, so even though it was an engineering pattern speed, this latest result appears to be that of a reasonable retail chip.
