Hammer said during the “Painful Lessons” podcast that his acting career in that era is “nowhere now”, adding that he is writing a screenplay.
“It was ego death, career death,” Hammer said of being accused of abusing and assaulting women. “A neutron bomb exploded in my life. It ended (everything). (…) In the context of the Hollywood system, I am not a viable commodity for the entertainment industry. I am not welcome to play in that sandbox at this time. I’m not allowed to go in that sandbox. But I am an artist. This is what I like to do. I have done nothing in my adult life except making films and doing drama. It is what makes my soul speak, it is what makes me happy. This is what I like.”
“Even though I’m not welcome in their sandbox, I’ve decided to create my own,” Hammer said firmly. If you won’t let me play in yours, I’ll go play in yours. I wrote a script with my friend Jerry. We’re trying to get that project together. I don’t want to go into details right now, but we have a script and it’s something we’re passionate about and it’s something I’m going to do. I don’t know what its future will be, I don’t know what its reaction will be, but these things are out of my control. Basically I’m powerless over how people will react to this. But I can do something I’m passionate about. Just because they tell me I can’t do it, doesn’t mean I have to listen.
The script “reflects (Hammer’s) life”, according to the podcast host.
Hammer said, “Writing this script has been incredibly cathartic.” “We took an original piece of source material that was then turned into a movie that we looked at and said, ‘There are a lot of similarities here, although some more subtle and some more overt.’ So we took it and made it more autobiographical and adapted it so that it was something that was cathartic, I have to say, just as gratifying as being on set in terms of exercising your creative muscles. And in some ways, it’s ours to do whatever we want.
The superstar compared the “deaths” of his profession to the “hero’s journey”.
“I am not saying I am a hero. I’m using the words of Joseph Campbell,” Hammer explained. “But if you can look at the idea of death as a transitory phase into the next part of your life, you’ll be grateful for all these little micro deaths. Will be.”
Hammer said it felt like I was in a tornado when the allegations came out.
“I wanted to go out there and be like, ‘This is crazy!’ What’s everyone talking about?'” Hammer said. “Now I’m able to see it from a distance. And now I say, ‘This is hilarious.’
The “Social Network” alum was also once at the center of rumors of cannibalistic sexuality, including allegedly telling women he wanted to eat them. After the claims were made public, an LAPD investigation began. Hammer was once turned down for roles in Amazon’s “Shotgun Wedding,” Paramount’s “The Offer,” Starz’s “Gaslit” and Broadway’s “The Minutes.”
Hammer said, “People called me a cannibal and everybody believed them.” “They say, ‘Yeah, that guy ate people.’ What are you talking about? You have to eat people, that’s weird?!
Now, despite the “inconsistencies” within the claims, Hammer is “grateful” for the allegations.
“I’m actually in a place now where I’m really grateful for it because where I was before all this happened in my life, I never felt good, I never felt satisfied, I never had There weren’t enough things, I was never in a place where I was happy with myself, where I had self-respect,” Hammer said. “I never knew how to love myself. I never knew how to give myself self-validation, but I had this job (as an actor) where I was able to get it from so many people that I never had to learn how to give it myself. How to give to.
The actor previously spoke with Breeze Mail in an interview in 2023 and admitted to attempting suicide on the date of the controversy.
Hammer said, “I just went into the ocean and swam out as far as I could and hoped that I would either drown, or get hit by a boat, or get eaten by a shark.” “Then I realized my kids were still on the sidelines, and I couldn’t do that to my kids.”
