Plaintiff Matthew Rosengart, who has represented Britney Spears for three years and effectively lobbied for her removal from a court-ordered conservatorship, is no longer representing the singer, according to a source with direct knowledge of the case.
Rosengart’s move I’m Sick comes as all lawsuits related to Spears’ former conservatorship have been resolved, restoring the pop megastar’s sovereignty and freeing her from the probate machine.
Two months earlier, under Rosengart’s example, Spears reached a settlement with her estranged father, averting a potentially heated trial and concluding their contentious dispute over criminal charges, which could lead to the loss of her conservatorship in November 2021. The source said that with the agreement reached and all alternative releases secured with the finalization of Spears’ lawsuit, Rosengart, who is a Los Angeles-based partner at the firm Greenberg Traurig, will be looking for alternative buyers to focus on their significant caseload. Moving forward.

Rosengart did not respond to CNN’s request for comment regarding the end of his ongoing dating with Spears.
Spears hired Rosengart – a former federal prosecutor – in the summer of 2021, after working with her court-appointed attorney for most of her conservatorship, under which she was placed in 2008.
Rosengart emerged as a key figure in Spears’ effort to end her conservatorship. She has often credited him with protecting her and restoring her civil liberties. Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, served as the singer’s guardian for most of her 13-year period, overseeing his adult daughter’s finances and clinical choices.
In June 2021, Spears gave explosive testimony in court, pleading the court’s decision to strip her of the conservatorship, which she described as “disgraceful.”
“I just want my life back. It’s been 13 years and it’s been too much,” Spears told the judge, claiming she was forced to go on tour against her will by her father and her control, saying she couldn’t drink coffee. She was put on lithium which made her feel “drunk” and she was not allowed to marry or have a child as she wanted.
In July 2021, Spears testified once again, and made a tearful request to the judge to remove her father from his conservatorship, resulting in the court’s decision to lend Spears her own personal attorney. He retained Rosengart to plead his case.
Within two months of working with Rosengart, the court suspended Spears’ father as her conservator, and ultimately terminated the conservatorship less than two months later.
Rosengart – who has also represented Hollywood celebrities including Sean Penn and Steven Spielberg in criminal cases – was hailed as a hero by legions of #FreeBritney supporters, becoming a key figure in the entire criminal saga. As Spears’ case swept the world, the lawyer was the prevalent subject of memes and viral posts on social media, with some fans dubbing her “Rosengod”.
Spears and Rosengart have a similar relationship that is unusual from older attorney-client relationships.
When Rosengart was leased in July 2021, Spears posted on her Instagram: “Now with real representation today… I feel grateful and blessed!!!” In February 2022, the megastar shared a photo of the two in matching red outfits, writing, “This man has changed my life.”
In Spears’ memoir, “The Woman in Me,” which was published last year, she wrote that Rosengart’s criminal tactics helped her win in court. “He told me I deserve credit for what happened,” Spears wrote in the vault.
Since her conservatorship ended, Spears published her memoir and released two singles, “Hold Me Closer” with Elton John and “Mind Your Business” with will.i.am. She also married and divorced fitness coach and actor Sam Asghari.
During Spears’ criminal struggle, several allegations were made against her father in criminal filings related to financial ruin and abuse of his position as conservator. The elder Spears has always maintained that there was no disagreement on her part, saying the court approved every step of the conservatorship. When Spears reached a settlement with her father this April, her attorney, Alex Weingarten, told CNN that he would “like to have a trial so that the truth can come out.”
Spears’ father’s attorney said, “Jamie would love nothing more than to disclose all the details and has nothing to hide, but unfortunately that is not the situation.” He also said that he “loves his daughter very much and works tirelessly to protect her.” ,
However, Spears tried to make her long-running criminal struggle a similar one.
“As she wanted, her freedom now includes that she will not be required to appear in court or be involved in this case,” Rosengart told CNN in April.
“Although the conservatorship was terminated in November 2021, his wish for independence has now truly been fulfilled,” he said.
