The next drama series from “Baby Reindeer” writer and superstar Richard Gad is to be co-produced by HBO and BBC. HBO announced Thursday that it has partnered with the BBC to co-produce the six-episode drama series “Lions” from Gad, who created, wrote and executive produced the series — but it involves the superstar. The BBC commissioned “Lions” from Banijay UK’s Mam Tor Prods. — in February, ahead of the spring premiere of “Baby Reindeer” on Netflix, where it briefly turned into a nasty disaster and catapulted Gad to the A-list. (This may also explain why Netflix – which often aims to snag international rights for its projects – is not part of the “Lions”. HBO, on the other hand, often partners with the BBC in co-productions. Is.)
“Ordering an HBO box set of ‘The Sopranos’, ‘The Wire’ or ‘Oz’ and watching it from beginning to end were some of the happiest moments of my childhood,” Gad said in a comment. “Since then, it has always been my dream to work with HBO and be a part of their iconic roster of shows. I’m so grateful to (HBO drama head) Francesca Orsi, (HBO drama senior VP) Cara Buckley and (HBO drama VP) Clint LaVigne for taking this chance on the show, and also to Ruben and Niall, who – in a dead-on big Despite being a -end Scottish town – it will definitely be pinching itself on this one! “I can’t wait to get started.”
Alexandra Brodsky (“Somewhere Boy”, “Revils”) and Ashref Reybrock (“Ferry: The Series”, “Cheyenne & Lola”) are set to direct “Lions” about two estranged brothers. Casting has not yet taken place on “Lions”, but production is expected to begin soon.
Here’s the logline: “When Niall’s estranged ‘brother’ Ruben turns up at his wedding, it causes an explosion of violence that takes us back into their lives. Spanning nearly forty years from the 1980s to the present day, this ambitious series will cover the ups and downs of the brothers’ relationship, from their meeting as teenagers to their falling out as adults – all the good, the bad, the terrible, Funny, will join. Angry and challenging moments along the way. It will capture the wild energy of a changing city – even a changing world – and try to get to the bottom of the difficult question… what does it mean to be a man?
MAM TOR PRODUCT. Will produce “Lions” for HBO in the US, as well as for BBC One, BBC Scotland and BBC iPlayer in the UK. Banijay Rights is handling global distribution outside the US and UK. And Ayer.

“We are extremely excited to partner with the BBC and Richard Gad, whose remarkable talent is making waves around the world,” HBO senior vice president of drama Cara Buckley said in a comment. “With this new, entertaining and thought-provoking series, we are proud to welcome Richard to the HBO family.”
Previously, Netflix discovered that “Baby Reindeer” had become the streamer’s refuge. Top 10 most watched English-language sequels of all time – 84.5 million viewers as of June 11. selection Review, Aramide Tinubu called the series “shocking, hilarious, painful and devastating”. ‘Baby Reindeer’ is a rare gem on television, reminding us of what’s possible in this medium.” (There has since been some debate over whether the series should be considered true to the original story.) Or not.)
Lindsay Salt, now director of BBC drama, was at Netflix when she founded “Baby Reindeer” – which was adapted from Gad’s level play game of the same name. After coming to the BBC, he was instrumental in getting “Lions” greenlit.
“We are delighted that HBO is joining us to bring Richard Gad’s excellent Lions script to the screen,” said Salt. “It’s a bold, brilliant, unique story and we can’t wait for audiences to see it.”
