CNN first reported Saturday’s assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump as if the former president had simply fallen off a level — a characterization that suddenly drew condemnation from conservative lawmakers and commenters on social media.

“Secret Service escorts Trump off stage after he collapses at rally,” CNN’s headline read.

The headline angered Conservative MPs, among others, on social media, who described the headline as “deliberate deception” and “offensive”.

“‘Falls at Rally’? Is that a real title? It’s offensive,” Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., posted on X on Friday night.
