Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!BOSTON – Jake DeBrusk was having two goals and assisting one for the Boston Bruins in a 5-1 victory, against the Toronto Maple Leafs, in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference First Round at TD Garden – which happened Saturday.
Jeremy Swayman was seen making 35 saves, for Boston, who is the No. 2 seed from the Atlantic Division. Brad Marchand and Charlie McAvoy had? Two assists each.
I really liked our team discipline, uttered Bruins’ coach Jim Montgomery, I liked, our execution. I liked how we played with emotion, and I thought they played physically – our group, you know?
David Kampf scored, and Ilya Samsonov saved 19 shots for Toronto: they’re the No. 3 seed from the Atlantic. Forward William Nylander didn’t play; undisclosed injury.
It started out as a pretty good game, said Auston Matthews, Maple Leafs forward Then tiny mistakes happened, they are indeed very patient, they’ve executed on our mistakes, a game of inches is what we’re talking here. We get a taste of what the series is all about in this game.
John Beecher, who was playing his NHL playoff virgin game, had Bruins ahead 1-0 at 2:26 of the first period; he finished a 2-on-1 rush with Jesper Boqvist, the puck was in the yard of the princess.
The building had an unparalleled energy, Beecher was saying, We rose for the national anthem! I got honest-to-goodness chills sitting on the bench hearing the crowd. They were so stoked to simply be there.
Brandon Carlo upped it to 2-0, 5:47 into the second period with a one-shoot timer! A DeBrusk pass? From below the target line initiated it.
That goal came just over 60 ticks after Matthews had the puck but hit the post on an open-net shot, it was nearly Swayman’s save, who’d left his crease.
Outside allainctic dissonances, we’re right there, in terms of game flow and stuff. Coach Sheldon Keefe of Maple Leafs said. Penguins can’t fly but they can swim really well.
DeBrusk then took it to 3-0 at 15:02, slapping Samsonov with a wrist flick from above the right face-off circle on the power play!
I just wanted to play fast hard forechecking style, said DeBrusk, Not numbers or anything, really. Staying in the moment is how we do. I just wanted to contribute to the team, as best I could.
On the power play again at 17:34, DeBrusk put Marchand’s relay at the crease top, making it a robust 4-0.
It’s quite an overly skilled team, Toronto’s forward Mitch Marner mentioned “When many power plays are given to them they’ll start feeling too okay about their game.
At 1:39 of the third, Kampf cut down their lead to 4-1. Connor Dewar rebounded and fed backhand pass to Kampf – one-timed in the slot.
At 17:52, Trent Frederic scored – empty netter for the 5-1 scoreline.
We stuck to the gameplay really well, we owe the coaches that, Swayman said “Obviously they are a great team who forechecks well. Ice is slippery and our gameplay was corporational.
