Dodge, the brand synonymous with heavy-horsepower muscle automobiles and SUVs, is facing a significant challenge with its compact Hornet crossover. Despite the corporate history of marketing general society movers such as minivans and three-row crossovers, the Hornet has struggled to gain popularity in the market. However why is this happening?

In 2019, Dodge sold 422,888 cars in the US, down slightly from the previous day. On the other hand, this number was substantially strengthened by the Allegiant Caravan minivan and the Proceed crossover. Overall, those fashions accounted for approximately 197,335 units of Dodge’s total sales that day. Elegant Caravan alone bought 122,648 devices, while Proceed added another 74,687 devices.

Despite mediocre fashion compared to its competitors, the Elegante Caravan and Proceed have been strong sellers due to their value. They were reasonably priced and sensible and brought ample area for homes. For example, the MSRP of the 2019 Elegant Caravan SE was $28,535, which with inflation equates to $35,012 these days. Similarly, the 2019 Proceed SE started at $24,740, which is about $30,356 in today’s dollars.

Aiming to reestablish its lineup, Dodge introduced the Hornet, a compact crossover intended to offer a contemporary society-motivating prospect. The Hornet offers remarkable efficiency on paper. The GT fashion includes a turbocharged 2.0-liter Hurricane4 inline-four engine, which turns out 268 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. Of torque. The R/T Fashion, a plug-in hybrid, combines a turbocharged 1.3-liter inline-four engine with an electric motor to produce 288 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. Of torque.

Despite those strong specifications, the Hornet has struggled to attract consumers. An elementary explanation why it has value. The Hornet GT starts at $31,400, and the R/T Fashion starts at $41,400. Those costs are significantly higher than those of the Elegant Caravan and Proceed.

worth position –

The Hornet’s premium price puts it in direct competition with additional top-tier manufacturers. For example, the Audi Q5 top rate quattro starts at $45,300, the BMW X1 xDrive28i starts at $40,500, and the Mercedes GLA 250 4MATIC starts at $45,000. Even within its segment, the Hornet GT faces stiff competition from less expensive potential alternatives. The Ford Departure ST-layout with the same old AWD starts at $30,490, the Kia Seltos LX AWD starts at $24,490, the Chevrolet Equinox LS AWD starts at $29,595, and the Hyundai Tucson SE AWD starts at $29,100.

Additionally, Stellantis’ private Jeep® Compass Game 4×4, which features the same body and engine as the Hornet GT, starts at $25,900. The Mexican-made Compass is $5,500 cheaper than the Hornet GT, highlighting a significant price discrepancy in the company’s lineup.

Desire for cheap society movers –

The discontinuation of the Elegante Caravan and Proceed in 2020 left a void in Dodge’s lineup. Those reasonable prices and sensible fashion offered 3 rows of seating and ample storage area. Their good fortune confirmed that Dodge’s strength lies in offering value-driven, family-friendly cars.

In 2023, Dodge’s US gross sales will decline to 199,453 units, slightly higher than the combined sales of the Elegante Caravan and Proceed in 2019. The Hornet made only 9,314, or about 4.6% of gross unit sales.

The way forward –

To regain its base, Dodge wants to tackle the Hornet’s pricing. One achievable solution is to build the Hornet with the next-generation Compass at the Brampton Meeting plant in Ontario, which would potentially reduce manufacturing costs. Dodge can compete better with competitors and attract more consumers by making the Hornet more affordable.

The Hornet is not a malicious car by any means. This mesh offers efficiency and fashionable options. On the other hand, without an additional aggressive pricing level, it struggles to attract the value-conscious consumers who once flocked to the Elegante Caravan and so forth.

Dodge’s fortunes for the week depended on its talent for reintroducing reasonably priced, sensible cars that appealed to households. The Hornet stream struggles to highlight a widespread desire for Logo to return to its roots as a supplier of value-driven, family-friendly cars.
