Scouting report: What is FSU getting in Brady Smigiel?
In an interview with Noles247.com ahead of his public announcement, Smigiel shared details about the moment he committed to head coach Mike Norvell on Friday.
“I committed. They were excited,” Smigiel said of the FSU staff’s reaction to his decision. “They’ve pretty much told me that they completely trust me and that I’m the guy they wanted. I didn’t even tell my parents (in advance). I felt very well off by everyone in the family. It was already approved so I didn’t have to have that conversation with them, that’s where those five people wanted me to go, so I thought it would be more special if I went and told the staff and my family too. To hide it from everyone for a day and then sit in a meeting with Coach Norvell and tell everyone was pretty special.”
Norvell, in particular, was excited to hear the news of FSU landing their guy at quarterback in the 2026 class.
“Yeah, he was yelling,” he said of Norvell’s reaction to his commitment. “I’m sure he woke up some people through Tallahassee.”

247Sports ranked Smigiel as the 75th overall prospect in the country and the 5th quarterback in next year’s class.
With the addition of Smigiel, FSU now has the nation’s No. 1 ranked 2026 recruiting class with four prospects. The other three commitments in the boat in that class for the ‘Noles are four-star wide receivers Darrian Williams of Tampa (Fla.) Smigiel is a big, strong armed pocket passer who has made a large number of plays since his freshman season. At the recent Under Armor Next Camp in SoCal, he had a very strong performance with a hard release and his usual trademark accuracy at all three levels of the field. He’s very accurate on the field, knows how to change pace and throws with a really good touch, but can add plenty of heat to his throws when needed. He’s a tough kid, will stand up and take shots and not panic. Great natural leader, locker room guy and teammate. Very high football LQ, dad is his coach so he’s been around the game and has a good natural feel for playing the position. He has good pocket mobility, he’s not a very good runner, but can find timing and is good at making throws outside the pocket. Projects as a high major Power 4 prospect with Sunday potential.
