Emmy season is back, and Tony Hale (“Veep”) and Sheryl Lee Ralph (“Abbott Elementary”), along with undrafted TV Academy president Chris Abrego, are announcing the 2024 Emmy nominations on Wednesday morning.

FX had two of the most nominated shows this hour: “Shogun” and “The Bear.” The Eastern drama received 25 nominations, including the performances of Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai, with the episode “The Bear” leading the way with 23. The Undergo stars Jeremy Alan White, Ayo Adebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Lionel Boyce and Liza Colon-Zayas are all receiving praise for their performances.

Wait, didn’t the 2024 Emmys happen again in January? No longer fair. Hollywood’s moves forced the Television Academy to push the 2023 broadcast to January this time — right in the middle of Oscar season. And now, just nine months later, we’re doing it again.

With voting ending on June 24 and the 76th Emmy nominations announced on Wednesday, now comes Emmy Campaign Volume 2. And unlike last hour, when the moves ended with months of doubt and lack of skill involvement, now the nominees are primed and ready to crash down the marketing campaign path once again.

The TV Academy’s nearly 24,000 attendees made their potential picks in 2024 from 229 overall layouts submitted in the major drama, comedy and restricted/anthology layout divisions – down 33% from last hour’s 309. And with fewer submissions, the organization’s sliding scale has resulted in fewer nominations in several divisions (less than 5 in the Top Comedy and Banned/Anthology/TV Film Performance boxes).

Some of that decrease is due to reduced manufacturing volumes, as networks and streamers have returned to the new layout. However, the previous hour’s moves were also behind schedule for many productions — including layouts that did not make this hour’s trim but will likely be relaunched in 2025, such as HBO’s “House of the Dragon.” (and possibly “The Last of Us”), Top Video’s “The Boys” and Netflix’s “Bridgerton.”

Meanwhile, there were only a few major Emmy law changes this hour. Possibly the most significant scripted choice was the last-minute technical exchange in the meadow. With so few submissions, the section was changed to a “juried” competition, in which peer task force participants screened the entries and the top two received 70% of the merit.

Celebrated for its longevity, the latest Emmys in January posted a record-low score for the Kudocast. The development suffered from an NFL playoff game, which did not support, as it only delivered 4.3 million viewers. What’s funny, though, is that that little-watched broadcast garnered the most powerful critical praise for an awards show in years — Emmys or otherwise. January’s match, hosted by Anthony Anderson and produced by JC Collins Entertainment, received top marks for its nostalgic tribute to TV hits from 75 years ago, revisiting genre artists like “Cheers” and “Martin Weekes”. Went. Back to the classics by recreating moments from performances like “I Love Lucy” and “All in the Family.” That’s why Jesse Collins Ent. This September’s broadcast is going to be conducted smartly again.

The 76th Emmy Awards will be broadcast live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 15 from 8pm to 11pm ET/5pm to 8pm PT on ABC. The release will be streamed on Hulu at a later date. One group has not yet been named.
