In 2019, Nike got closer than ever to its desires of popularizing self-tying shoes by releasing the Adapt BB. Using Bluetooth, the shoe is paired with the Adapt app that allows customers to do things like tighten or loosen the shoe’s laces and monitor its LED lighting fixtures. Nike, on the other hand, has announced that it is “retiring” the app on August 6, when it will no longer be downloadable from Apple’s App Collect or Google Play Games Collect; Nor whether it will be updated or not.
In a press release recently published by The Verge, the reason for Nike temporarily shutting down the app is that Nike is “no longer moving unused versions of Adapt footwear.” The company started informing owners about the closure of the app about four months ago.
Those who have already purchased the shoes may still value the app come August 6, but it is expected that an iOS or Android update will eventually render the app unusable. Additionally, those who receive unused software will no longer be able to receive Adapt starting August 6th.
Without the app, wearers are not able to change the color of the sneaker’s LED lighting fixtures.
