Fans of the growing Fever-Sky WNBA rivalry didn’t have to wait long for their next rematch. Just one week after the Fever’s impressive 91-83 win over the Sky, the two teams meet again on Sunday afternoon, this time in Chicago.

During last week’s matchup, Caitlin Clark scored 23 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the floor, adding eight rebounds and nine assists. She was also involved in one of the game’s most talked-about moments, when Angel Reese committed a flagrant foul by hitting Clark in the head while driving to the basket. Reese said after the game that it was a “basketball game” and Clark agreed with that sentiment.

The Fever and Sky rookies are making a big impact so far this WNBA season, as both finished in the top 10 in the first batch of fan voting for the WNBA All-Star Game (Clark was second, Reese was seventh). On Wednesday, Reese broke a WNBA record when she posted a double-double for her seventh consecutive game in a win over the Wings.

  • Chennady Carter took a tough loss under the basket with a foul by Nalyssa Smith, but seems to be OK. She makes a free throw, but misses the second one.

  • Clark and Boston have been a magical duo for the Fever today: The rookie gets another assist for Boston, who goes for a layup. Clark now has eight assists, and Boston has 10 points – the majority of which came from Clark’s assists.

  • The Sky are now up 52-46, which is tied with the Fever for their biggest lead so far in the game. Indiana takes a timeout to reset.

  • A monster layup (with an and-one) from Cardoso to open the half. Things are already looking as tight and scrappy as they did in the first half, but Chicago still has the edge.

  • Indiana Fever 46, Chicago Sky 45 at halftime

Kelsey Mitchell still leads the Fever with 10 points, while Caitlin Clark had eight points and seven assists in the first half.

Chennady Carter had 15 points for the Sky, and Angel Reese had eight points and eight rebounds. Reese and Clark are definitely on track for double-doubles tonight (with Reese in rebounds and Clark in assists).

Another double-double from Reese would extend his streak. On Thursday, Reese became the only rookie with seven consecutive double-doubles; Today there will be another eight.

  • After missing eight shots in a row, Indiana got hot enough to retake the lead, but the Sky were right behind. This has been an incredibly close game, with seven ties and eight lead changes so far – and there are likely more to come.

fever 46, half the sky 45

  • After a scoreless minute for both teams, Camila Cardoso gave Chicago the lead again with a big layup.

  • Chicago’s Lindsey Allen scored a brilliant running layup with the help of Marina Mabrey to tie the score again at 39-39. There are about four minutes left for the quarter to end.

  • Boston finally starts to get some points, with three consecutive buckets coming off an assist from Clark. The rookie-second-year student pairing has grown stronger throughout the season, with the two linking up more often and more creatively.

  • NaLyssa Smith gets a nasty layup off a pump-fake that sends Diamond DeShields to the floor – off a Clark hook shot assist, no less.

  • Diamond DeShields has been successfully shutting down Kaitlyn Clark since coming off the bench. DeShields had a big block on Clark in the first quarter, and has kept him from taking shots so far in the second quarter.

  • It has been a fast-paced game so far, with six lead changes in the first quarter alone. The Fever had better luck on the road than the Sky, but Chicago led 28–26 at the quarter break behind Chennady Carter’s 11 points. Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell led Indiana with 10 points.

  • Kamila Cardoso is now also sitting on two fouls, after blocking former South Carolina teammate Aliyah Boston. Boston missed both free throws, and is still pointless.

  • Chicago’s Marina Mabrey is sitting on two fouls halfway through the first quarter. Mabrey is averaging 15.1 points per game this season and it would be a huge loss for the Sky if she gets into trouble early.

  • And off we go! Clark started things off quickly, with a huge three-pointer to put Indiana on the scoreboard.

  • The starting five for the Chicago Sky: Chennady Carter, Lindsey Allen, Marina Mabrey, Angel Reese and Kamila Cardoso.

  • The starting five for the Fever: Caitlin Clark, Christy Wallace, Kelsey Mitchell, Nalisa Smith and Aliyah Boston.

  • Tickets for today’s game at Chicago’s Wintrust Arena are breaking WNBA records, with an average price topping $300. Rivalry or not, this is definitely a much-anticipated matchup.

  • Caitlin Clark has sparked skepticism about whether the Indiana Fever-Chicago Sky rivalry is becoming a rivalry, and she was asked the question again during a warm-up interview on ESPN.

“You guys ask some tough questions while I’m warming up…,” Clark said, smiling.

He acknowledged that it could be a start, but said it was not the main priority. “Expecting our teams to be the best they can be is the biggest focus right now,” he said.

  • For today’s game, Angel Reese is wearing custom Reeboks in honor of Juneteenth.

Pregame, Reese said on ESPN that representation is important, and shouted out other black women in the league. “To be able to represent today (Juneteenth), it’s going to be extremely important,” he said.
