It’s only been about two years since the last “big screen” Garmin debuted, and it feels like we’ve been waiting. The brand new Garmin Edge 1050 requires us to revise the way cyclists view and use their head devices. Garmin claims the new Edge 1050 is its brightest, smartest and most connected biking laptop yet.
The Edge 1050 is Garmin’s latest flagship biking laptop. It has an ultra-vibrant liquid crystal touchscreen display and provides extra real-time comments than any laptop on the market. Are riders capable of all real-time feedback and communication on the ride?
What kind of real-time observations are we talking about? The Edge 1050 has updated navigation, performance tracking, biking awareness and intelligent connectivity.
Won’t this drain the battery? Yes, but the fresh unit is claimed to have a battery life of up to 20 hours in the most rigorous usage time and up to 60 hours in battery-saver mode. This isn’t too sinful, considering that it works like a smartphone. Alternatively, riders looking for an ultra-distance laptop may want to stick with the Edge 1040 Sun or wait until the Edge 1050 Sun option becomes available.
The refreshed Edge 1050 also has biking family options. It’s like a boarded road map that can guide and redirect you when the problem escalates inappropriately or “cyclists wade”. The unit could bring together the study of tagged road hazard indicators through fellow cyclists. The study may be as simple as a roadside pothole or a fallen tree. To support the release (if you choose), riders can also view in-ride messaging and leaderboards during crew rides.
Early Edge customers, don’t worry, the Garmin Tide app will be updated soon. GroupRide updates and road hazard indicators will be available on Edge 540, Edge 840 and Edge 1040 form biking computers.
Optional options come with on-device direction opening, Garmin Pay™, an integrated speaker, and additional features to support each experience.
Imagine you’re looking to make your weekend hammock experience extra thrilling. Riders can add additional competition to their experience with in-ride leaderboards for climbs, as well as post-ride awards including Pace Racer (easiest max speed), Chatterbox (max use of the GroupRide messaging feature), “you name it.” Give”. Workman B (maximum future expense in paddling), and extra.
If an incident has happened to someone similar to your experience, messages during the trip and the place of residence can help. When incident detection is enabled, indicators can notify fellow riders and direct them to the rider seeking assistance.
“We are excited to introduce our most capable, high-performing bike computer to date with the Edge 1050. Offering an exceptional in-ride experience, superior navigation and community-focused features, our latest cycling computer is designed to empower cyclists Designed to keep everyone inspired – whether they’re planning a group trip with friends or a longer, solo adventure.

Like alternative Garmin devices, the refreshed Edge 1050 features coaching gear. Sovereign Garmin Coaching Plans – like Event-Adaptive Coaching Plans – provide customized workout routines that are optimized according to efficiency and consistency, current daily driven workout cycles providing experience consideration according to the owner’s wave training load and Garmin estimated VO2 Max. Are.
The Edge 1050 includes real-time endurance insights that can help riders closely view and monitor their exertion levels. Those insights are based on the rider’s wave position, predicted VO2 and FTP. Meanwhile, energy information now considers wind knowledge and the bicycle owner’s wave endurance to make real-time changes to energy targets.
An updated ClimbPro will let riders see additional climb and grade for each climb – whether using direction or not. This feature is one of my personal favorites and is helping riders climb properly without blowing up. The all-new Garmin Complex Biking Dynamics can provide riders insight into their performance and mountain motorcycle metrics, including bounce count, bounce distance, and Garmin specific options like Grit® and Current™.
If you’re thinking about safety, you almost certainly know the Garmin Varia or Trek carback radar. The Edge 1050 includes safety features like LiveTrack and incident detection and is compatible with the Varia™ sequence of biking radar and intelligent lighting. The unit can also be paired with inReach® satellite communicators.
