NEW YORK — If there’s one person in the world of Netflix’s Regency-era romance “Bridgerton” who’s managed to spite the bold Queen Charlotte, it’s Girl Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews). Mayfair’s unnamed gossip editor has wooed the Queen for several social sessions, and despite several attempts by the Queen to reveal his identity, he escapes each week.
In the first season, the Queen tasks Eloise (Claudia Jessie), the fifth child of Bridgerton society, with deciding who is Lady Whistledown. In later seasons, she believes Eloise to be a writer herself, then her companions see Eloise talking to Theo Sharp, a printer’s store apprentice in Bloomsbury, until True Girl Whistledown steps in to save Eloise. And publishes a scathing expose on “collaboration with him”. political radical” and her budding dating with Theo.
The search continues in Season 3 and within the final episode (now streaming), her obsession with the author reaches untapped heights when she admires being the one to discover Whistledown’s true identity. This brings us to the question: Why is Queen Charlotte so obsessed with the Girl Whistledown?
“The Tone is a very different place,” says Golda Roshuvel, who plays him, in a recent interview. “And having someone come in and shake it up a little bit is interesting to the Queen. There’s a lot of respect there for this person who has the courage to come in and shake it up a ton. There’s a sense of ‘how dare you,’ but There is also a feeling of ‘Who is this?’ And I respect that a little bit. Because it’s a dangerous thing to do and anyone who does it respects the woman at the top of the food chain.”

Mapping Girl Whistledown and the Year of the Queen
At the end of Season 3, the Queen’s efforts finally succeed, and she learns that it is the newlywed Penelope Bridgerton, née Featherington (Nicola Coughlan). Now that Girl Whistledown’s identity has been revealed, what kind of dating will Rani do with her?
“That was a really big moment when she found out it was actually Penelope,” says Roshewell, adding that the Queen first became aware of Penelope when she saw her heavy dress in “She’s All That”. Her steps were getting worse inside the green dress. Reveal at the beginning of Season 3.

The moment comes full circle when Penelope is seen at her Dankworth-Finch Ball as Girl Whistledown, wearing the emerald-green dress she wore in the previous scene. Penelope later told the family why she started writing people’s papers and what they provided her.his column, she apologizes to the queen. Charlotte, wearing a happy smile, says: “What’s life without a little gossip?”
Is it heartless that the Queen and Penelope would now become friends?
“There’s always been this conversation between me and Nicola since day one, wouldn’t it be good to call the Queen, and have Whistledown and the Queen have tea together and come up with some kind of plot to destroy the Ton or Whatever it takes, or be an ally,” Roshuvel says. “But there is one scene that Nicola and I definitely want to see.”

How will the Queen and Girl Whistledown co-exist when they will not turn friends and gossip over tea, because the Queen has given the writer permission to continue writing her public letter? pillar?
“I think they’ll try, but there will be a little pushback,” says Roshuvel. “There needs to be a little push and pull to make it a little sweeter, a little more electric. They’re similar in different ways. And that lends itself to juicy storytelling.”
