Prince Harry is set to present the Pat Tillman Award to veterans at a glittering ceremony in Los Angeles these days for his work with the Invictus Games.
ESPN’s decision to give the award to the 39-year-old Duke of Sussex has not been without controversy, with thousands of people signing an exchange.org petition arguing there are more deserving recipients.
The late Mr. Tillman’s mother, Mary, said she could not understand why the award was being given to such a “controversial and divisive” man.
Meanwhile, Wimbledon officials are hoping the Princess of Wales can present the trophies as the match follows suit.
It comes after Queen Camilla’s appearance at the Royal Fields the previous day where she said it was “great to be able to escape for a day”.

A petition urging US sports network ESPN to “reconsider” its decision to award the Pat Tillman Award to Prince Harry for his work with the Invictus Games has nearly 75,000 signatures.
The Duke of Sussex, 39, is due to receive a veterans award for his work at the Invictus Games today (July 11).
The Exchange.org petition reads: “Prince Harry, while a former military officer, has been involved in controversies that call into question his suitability to receive this major honor.
“He has faced allegations of endangering his squadron by publicly revealing military killings.
“The Prince also allegedly targeted his father Prince Charles during a flyover.
“More recently, his role in the Invictus Games, a platform designed to celebrate the resilience and dedication of veterans, has been criticized as self-centered.”
ESPN has defended its decision to award the award to Harry, citing the game’s “incredible” actions.
