The hinge is probably one of the most impressive parts of any foldable, and the only thing the Razr+ found on extreme occasions wasn’t great. It couldn’t secure multiple angles, and due to the high guarantee requirement, hinge movement felt lumpy. When you opened or closed it, it felt as if the hinge would momentarily catch on something, so you’d want to press harder. When closed, both parts wobble, making it feel realistic, even if the rest of the phone looks expensive.
From what I’ve heard from colleagues who have worn the brand new Razr+, the brand new hinge fixes all this. Moto paid attention to making it more simple to not hide it with one hand and made the hinge smaller. It is much stronger than before.
The 2023 Razr+ has a larger display screen than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Turn 5, but the usable length was shorter. The Razr’s display was technically better because it fell between the cameras, although the actual usable length above those cameras was shorter than the Turn 5’s due to the larger hinge.
As discussed earlier, the new hinge on the 2024 Razr+ is shorter, which means the screen has been operated at that length. It’s hard to believe that this protected screen now measures 4 inches, the same size as the iPhone 5, just in a different mode factor.
My second biggest gripe was how reflective the worn-out Razr+’s protective screen was. It attracted fingerprints like nothing else and it ended up being almost repetitive. The 2024 Razer+ fixes this too, so it fights reflections and fingerprints better and gets brighter too. Truth be told, the protected display screen is just as bright as my S24 Ultra, and the internal display screen is even brighter.
Surprisingly, this square 1080p display is now 165Hz for testing the internal display screen, which is undoubtedly overkill, although I wouldn’t wait to try it.
Moto has also finally added a true always-on display. The much-worn Razer’s “Peak Display”, an evolution of what was once introduced in the Moto
Additionally, Moto also added something called a table display – the phone will be opened into a “tent” shape, and that new always-on display will fit into a table clock-like standby. Feature iOS followed extreme opportunity.
Supply: Motorola
As someone who has worn every Galaxy S Ultra phone, I disagree with the shutter lag and blurry photos indoors or in low light. The 2023 Razr+ took this to the extreme, however, making the cameras almost completely useless except for all other lighting equipment. The all-new Razr+ steps up with two 50MP shooters, a larger lens, and a 2X telephoto.
Of course, we’ll need an additional week with the phone to really judge the quality, but from what I’ve seen in the handful of YouTube videos that already exist, and the confidence Moto had when talking about them, According to him, I am expecting important issues on this occasion. I don’t want the cameras to be the best, as I still have my S24 Ultra for the days I want to be creative, but I would like the Razr to at least be able to take photos for memories.
It’s been about a day since I got my hands on the 2024 Moto Razr+, and I’m looking forward to a bigger package than I expected. Motorola has solved almost all of my problems on this occasion, and I think I’d value this thing as a package.
I obviously love my S24 very much; A turn foldable isn’t going to be able to do everything the S24 can do, and it definitely won’t have an S Pen, but it would definitely be more comfortable to carry in a safe, compatible in my wallet, and more flexible. All that’s left is for Motorola to fix its tool replacement practices, and I’m hoping that’s something it does sooner rather than later.
