Recap the occasion’s news and headlines from Apple, including unedited iPhone 16 leaks, iPhone’s AI limits, an ancient MacBook Professional for Christmas, Apple’s open-source AI, When Siri faces Apple judgment, iPhones’ AI Supercycle, and is included. What happened to Apple’s i?
Apple Loop is here to remind you of the many discussions that took place around Apple in the last seven days. You’ll also read my weekly digest of Android news here on Forbes.
The occasion saw several cases for the iPhone 16 on display. They may not show off the internals of the next-generation iPhones, but it still gives us additional potential information about the camera and its value, along with Apple’s spatial computing plans:
“The photos once again point to a subtly revised design for the iPhone 16, with two vertically aligned camera lenses. One theory suggests this arrangement will allow spatial video recording for Apple’s Vision Pro mixed reality headset. Capabilities are adjustable, even on the base model. For optimal spatial capture, the lens needs to be aligned horizontally, mimicking the position of the human eye.”

Nurfoto using Getty PicturesApple has revealed that only the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max of the Flow iPhones will support Apple’s Judgment AI. It depends on the mix of memory, processor and bandwidth on the board, as Apple’s John Giannandrea explained on an updated “Talk Show” podcast:
“So these models, when you run them at run time, it’s called inference, and inference of large language models is incredibly computationally expensive. And so it’s a combination of the bandwidth in the device, it’s the Apple Neural Engine “The device has the ability to actually run these models so fast that you could theoretically run these models on a very old device, but it would be so slow that it wouldn’t be useful.”

Apple took the unexpected step of launching unmodified M4 silicon in the iPad Pro instead of any Mac. Some time later, the macOS public will see the M4 set, and it’s more likely to be the MacBook Professional that will be the first to wrinkle:
“The entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro is expected to get an M4 chip, while the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will be updated with M4 Pro and M4 Max chips. The Mac mini will get an M4 and M4 Pro. Chips. MacBook Air, Mac Studio and Mac Pro models won’t be updated with M4 chips until 2025, and it’s not yet clear when the iMac might get an update with the refreshed chip technology.”

Additional details on the rollout of Apple’s M4 chipset in the Mac public were published by Bloomberg later this week. As previously reported at the event, the MacBook Pro line-up will launch with M4 on Mac hardware in late 2024. Disappointingly, the MacBook Wind may not be updated to M4 until spring 2025:
“The M4-based Mac Pro and Mac Studio are still on target for the last half of the next generation. There’s been speculation online about when to expect the M4 Mac wrinkle, which I first discussed months ago. In the nearest checking round, I do not see any turnaround in the time table. “M4 iMacs, MacBook Execs (low and high-end versions) and Mac mini (smartly intelligent low and high-end models) are scheduled to arrive between late 2024 and early 2025.”

Despite the fact that Apple has not yet rolled out its Apple Judgment AI tool to the public, a portion of its AI effort is available. Hugging Face is a web-based open-source provider that stocks tools and datasets for studying fashion. Apple has uploaded an additional 20 models to the provider, including models previously uploaded at this moment:
“Apple has made a significant stride in its efforts to empower builders with cutting-edge on-device AI features. The tech giant recently shared 20 ancient core ML datasets on fashion and four datasets on hugging faces, a major public Provided platform AI fashion and code.

As for the crowded arrival of the Apple Judgment? There is a possibility of tremors lasting longer than expected. Apple’s decision on whether iOS 18 will ship with the iPhone 16 and 16 Professional in September, with the next fall for used iPhones not set until early 2025:
“Siri will still have some “ancient bells and whistles” in iOS 18 in September, with an ancient interface that glows at the edge of the display… (but) we’ll have to wait until the next moment to see that in Siri.” Apple’s most significant improvements will be the addition of an iOS 18 update in 2025 to improvements to Apple’s digital workforce:

Anadolu using Getty PicturesUpdate June 22: Key points from Apple judgment on availability within the EU,
Speaking to the Financial Times this weekend, an Apple spokesperson explained why Apple’s decision may not be completely immune in the EU. It comes down to DMA’s interaction with iOS and iPadOS. There is no clear guidance on whether Apple’s decision satisfies regulators or whether it will supersede further investigation. Importantly, this may not be as expected before the decline. Given an important promotion par excellence, Apple has refused to seize the opportunity this year:
“Due to the regulatory uncertainties brought about by the Digital Markets Act, we do not believe we will be able to roll out three of these features — iPhone Mirroring, SharePlay screen sharing enhancements, and Apple Intelligence — in a timely manner,” Apple said Friday. This year for our EU users.”

With the introduction of AI to the iPhone (no matter when it arrives), Apple is expected to push a large number of AI-enabled iPhones. With very subtle backwards compatibility, will this lead to a “super-cycle” of iPhone gross sales? Wedbush analysts believe this is going to happen:
“…as Apple’s AI strategy is launched, it could rapidly catalyze a long-awaited super cycle in Cupertino, with 1.5 billion of the yellow iPhones worldwide now being replaced by 270 million iPhones in just over four years. Not upgrading your smartphone. Our guess:
(9to5Mac).
There was a time when the whole thing started with “i”. Now, all product names start with “Apple”. What is happening with that? Naturally, there’s an ancient Reddit discussion on Apple’s branding on this occasion, which has several theories as to why, including:
“The use of Apple in the name is a marketing ploy to ensure brand recognition. Acura faced big trouble in the 90s when they started naming their cars like Legend and Integra and no one knew Who made them? Named their cars RDX, MDX, etc. I guess that forced people to include “Acura” back in the conversation.
