Israel’s defense minister has been to Washington to meet senior Biden management officials for what he described as “crucial” talks on the dual conflict with Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Yoav Galant, along with the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Israel Security Forces, will meet with the United States Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, and Joe Biden’s special envoy, Amos. Hochstein.
Gallant’s conversation came as Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, repeated his claim that the Biden leadership is causing a “dramatic decline” in supplies to Israel in recent months, a matter that has angered US officials. Who described it as “disturbing”.
In comments on Sunday, Netanyahu reiterated his resistance to ending the conflict in Gaza – certainly one of Hezbollah’s conditions for reducing tensions – with Hamas still in the park.
Describing their talks, Gallant said: “During these meetings I plan to discuss developments in Gaza and Lebanon. These (discussions) are particularly important and impactful at this time. We are ready to take any action necessary in Gaza, Lebanon and other areas.
Some Israeli officials have compared an attack in Gaza’s southern wing, Rafah, where they say it is focused on Hamas’ depleted battalions, to a potential refocusing on the border with Lebanon. Where the exchange of fire between Israel and Hezbollah is increasing. There is a possibility of a huge conflict there.
Gallant made it seem in his comment as if he would create the same hyperlink. “The transition to Phase C in Gaza is of great importance. I will discuss this change with US officials to see how it could enable additional things, and I know we will have even closer cooperation with the US on this issue,” he said.
On Sunday, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff team warned that an Israeli attack in Lebanon could increase the risk of a wider conflict that draws Iran and Iran-aligned militants.
“Hezbollah is more capable than Hamas in terms of total capability, number of rockets, etc. And I would just say that I want Iran to be willing to provide more support to Hezbollah,” Air Force General Charles Q. Brown told reporters.
Amid concerns that the fighting with Hezbollah could escalate into a broader conflict, the mob’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, repeatedly threatened that his movement would crash across Israel.
The Lebanese Armed Forces published a video on Saturday night that showed Israeli positions and coordinates, along with an excerpt from an ending timeline in which Nasrallah said: “If war is imposed on Lebanon, the resistance will end without any Will fight restrictions or regulations.”
As exchanges continued between the two sides, wind alarms sounded in Israel’s Lower Galilee on Sunday morning, after a Hezbollah drone was intercepted in the Misgav area south of the city of Carmel, which belonged to a defense factory. Which was further south than previous attacks. ,
On Sunday morning, Israel also intercepted a drone outside its airspace that was flown by an Iran-allied team into Iraq after it was reported that other Iran-allied groups in the region had joined forces to support Hezbollah. Was announced to send. A combination of very broad conflicts.
There has been almost daily shelling along Lebanon’s border with northern Israel since a bloody attack on southern Israel by opponents of the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip in early October has escalated the conflict in Gaza.
The situation in the north worsened this year, when an Israeli airstrike killed a senior commander of Hezbollah forces in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah responded by firing a large number of rockets and explosive drones into northern Israel.
Israeli officials have threatened a military invasion of Lebanon if negative talks are held to push Hezbollah away from the border.
Nasrallah said in a tone on Wednesday that terrorist leaders from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen and other countries had previously announced the sending of thousands of protesters to aid Hezbollah, but he said that the crowd already numbered more than 100,000. Were rivals.
“We told them, ‘Thank you, but we are overwhelmed by the numbers we have,'” Nasrallah said.
Officials with the Iranian-sponsored Lebanese and Iraqi teams say they would be joined by Iran-backed rivals from across the region if conflict broke out on the Lebanon-Israel border. Thousands of such adversaries are already deployed in Syria and could easily slip through Lebanon’s open border.
A professional on the Iran-backed staff in Iraq told the Associated Press in Baghdad, “If a full-scale conflict breaks out we will fight side by side with Hezbollah” and insisted on speaking anonymously about military issues. He declined to provide additional details. The professional, along with someone else from Iraq, said that some of Iraq’s advisers were already in Lebanon.
An expert from the Lebanese Iran-backed team also said on condition of anonymity that Iraq’s Common Mobilization Forces, Afghanistan’s Fatemiyoun, Pakistan’s Zainabiun Brigade and opponents of Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen could come to Lebanon to take part in the war.
Netanyahu said on Sunday that the dispute with the United States over gun delays could soon be resolved. “About four months ago, there was a dramatic decline in arms supplies coming to Israel from the US. We got all kinds of explanations, but… the basic situation did not change,” he told a cabinet meeting.
“In light of what I have heard over the past day, I am hopeful and confident that this issue will be resolved in the near future.”
He said government Israeli officials had lobbied their American counterparts at the highest levels “at all levels” for faster delivery of the guns. “After seeing no change in the situation for months, I decided to give it public expression,” he said.
