The splashy announcement of the Wonder vs. Capcom Combat Assortment got fans around the world excited to get easy access to these arcade classics, even if not everything is the same as it once was on the shelves.
On top of managing to add some nice unused options to modernize the collection, it looks like Capcom is going to put down possibly the silliest fighters ever made.
It may be really infamous but still it is quite difficult to understand the inclusion of Norimaro in Wonder Tremendous Heroes vs. Side Road Fighter.
Norimaro was once a separate guest personality created by Japanese comedian Noritake Kinashi as a handsome stereotypical coward/awkward high school nerd who asks the other warring parties for their signatures and wants to shock their image.
Even though he usually started out as just a shaggy dog story, former Capcom artist, scribbler and translator Katsuya Akitomo found that creator Yoshiki Okamoto mentioned that he asked Kinashi to let Norimaro do his then-current Side Road Fighter. Had promised.
Okamoto himself reportedly wasn’t interested in the “mind-bogglingly uncool” persona, but legendary artist Akiman loved him and so he was made an afterthought for Wonder Super Heroes vs. Side Street Fighter.

Not surprisingly, Wonder himself appears to have had no ill will with Norimaro at all, so he was created a Jap-exclusive personality as a compromise.
As for the unused MVC collection, it certainly appears as if the comedy guest was removed entirely.

Optional secret battle factions like Cyber Akuma can now be unlocked via settings within the changes made to the arcade original, with no mention of eliminating Norimaro – even though there is somehow a disagreeable link to him on the Japanese website. yes. Compilation.
Refuse access exists for him on the personality page for Wonder vs. SF (where Cyber Akuma now also does), and a screenshot of the fighter make choice display screen shows that Norimaro’s normal location has been changed based on alternate releases of the game. Like game symbol.
Norimaro’s absence likely stems from licensing problems with Capcom and certainly not a desire to bring Nippon TV and Arrival back under Wonder/Disney’s control.
Or perhaps the powers that be still didn’t like him and wanted to avoid jumping through the remaining hoops to get him back.
Norimaro didn’t really play the game like a normal fighter, with most of his injuries not coming from big attacks and combinations, but rather comically throwing random pieces from his bag at the opponent and trying to push/kick them.
It seems that this unintentional prevention flavor helped inspire Phoenix Wright’s playing style and mechanics years later in Extreme Wonder vs. Capcom 3.
And even though he technically remained a Japan-specific personality, localization and translation work was done primarily for Norimaro and still remained untouched within the code.
The alternate English versions of Wonder vs. Side Road Fighter may be modified to give prominence to Norimaro, where he will also be shown with the victory quote and personality ending fully translated (albeit with the title of Captain United States. be presented).
The unused Wonder vs. Capcom collection would have been an amusing strategy to make Norimaro formally playable and finally make that work formally worthy, which would probably have confused most players outside of Japan, even if it seemed This will not happen.
That also wouldn’t be the only removal/content adjustment found in the compilation.

The main Wonder vs. Capcom name is indexed as are some of the stages that have been changed, including Honda’s bathhouse possibly having to withdraw the sun rising from the background, as well as the pinup style on the calendar and the towels themselves despite this. Including the person closing from. Not yet fully shown.
This unreleased MvC Fighting Collection won’t be releasing on Xbox at all, nor will there be a local PlayStation 5 version, and we recently took a look at why that’s the case.
Wonder vs. Capcom Combat Assortment: Arcade Classics is scheduled to launch in 2024 for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
