Police have still not questioned the man suspected of killing three women in a crossbow attack.

Carol Hunt, 61, Hannah Hunt, 28, and Lewis Hunt, 25, were found seriously injured at their home in Bushey, Hertfordshire, just before 19:00 BST on Tuesday and died at the scene.

A search was launched for 26-year-old Kyle Clifford, who was found injured in a north London cemetery on Wednesday afternoon and remains in hospital.

The victims were the wife and two daughters of BBC racing commentator John Hunt, and Mr Clifford Lewis is Hunt’s ex-boyfriend.

Hertfordshire Police said in a statement that Mr Clifford was still receiving medical treatment in a London hospital.

“At this stage, he is currently in a critical condition and has not yet spoken to the authorities.

“A crossbow has been recovered as part of the investigation,” it said.

Police had earlier confirmed that “unsolicited photographs were taken” of Mr Clifford by officers while arresting him at Lavender Hill Cemetery in Enfield.

The force said that “There were no reports of prior police contact between Hertfordshire Constabulary, Kyle Clifford and the victims”.

Det Superintendent Rob Corridor, of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims at this devastating and indescribable time. They are being supported by specially trained officers.

“This was an unprecedented attack and we are committed to understanding the full circumstances of what happened that evening and the events that followed. We are fully committed to seeking justice for the victims and their families.”

“As I’m sure people can imagine, this investigation will take time. I want to reiterate my heartfelt thanks to the members of the public who contacted us yesterday and helped with our enquiries.”

Tributes have begun to pour in to the family from friends, fellow broadcasters and members of the sports world.

In Bushey, more than 50 people attended a vigil to pay tribute at St James’s Church.

Sally Golding, who knew Hannah Hunt as her beautician, said: “I felt I needed to come today.

“Hannah was a really sweet, bubbly person with a great personality. “She was a lovely girl, a very happy little soul.”

There is a wave of mourning among the family’s friends and colleagues

Carroll Hunt’s old friend Lee Holloway was crying as she left the church.

“I will miss Carol like crazy. The four of us were close friends and we were pregnant at the same time,” she said.

“I can’t believe this happened. This is the stuff nightmares are made of.

“I feel for their eldest daughter and for John. I can’t imagine what it must feel like.”

A vigil was held at St James’s Church in Bushey

Bouquets of flowers are being laid at the family home in Ashlin Close as friends and neighbors of the Hunt family leave messages of condolence.

“I wish none of this was real,” wrote one.

One of the important cards reads, “Rest in peace Carol, Hannah and Lewis,” and another reads, “This is sad.”

Luisa, 36, said she had been a customer of Lewis’s dog grooming business, Groom and Radiance, for three years.

She added, “I hope they are remembered as wonderful, hard-working, compassionate women rather than victims.”

Hannah Hunt’s colleagues at the Anti-Growing Old Hospital in Radlett have expressed “deep regret and sadness” at her death.

He said on social media that “she was a fantastic therapist and the clients loved her”.

“We send our condolences and prayers to his father, sister and family,” the post said.

Wreaths were laid in memory of the crowd

Tributes to the Hunt crowd and expressions of support from sports figures and broadcasters also appeared on social media.

Football commentator Jackie Ottley said: “I couldn’t/didn’t want to tweet about football yesterday as I was extremely horrified to hear about John Hunt’s family.

“What a good-looking, wonderful boy he is. He’s got a lot of help. He’s going to need it.”

A minute’s silence was held at Newmarket Racecourse in memory of the family of commentator John Hunt.

In a statement, the British Horseracing Authority said: “The thoughts of everyone at the BHA are with John Hunt, his crowd and friends at this shocking and devastating moment.

“It is impossible to understand the trauma this terrible incident has caused them.”

Jockeys at Kempton Landscape Racecourse wore black armbands on Wednesday in a show of support and Newmarket Racecourse in Suffolk held a moment of silence on Thursday in memory of the victims.

Sky commentator Mike Cattermole said that “the shock and disgust of what happened to John Hunt and his family was difficult to understand and deal with.

“John lived for his women, they were sectors for him.”

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper is urgently considering whether tougher crossbow laws are needed in the wake of the killings.

She will look at the findings of a Home Office review carried out earlier this year.

A Home Office spokesperson said: “We keep the stock of legislation under constant review and a motion was already tabled for evidence to consider whether additional controls should be introduced on crossbows .

“The Home Secretary will rapidly consider the findings to determine whether the laws need to be tightened further.”
