Kevin Costner faced questions from Gayle King over his respectable “Yellowstone” departure — and he wasn’t satisfied.
Speculation of rift between Costner and the show’s writer, Taylor Sheridan, has been rife since rumors surfaced of the actor’s advances in May 2023. The Next Generation, Costner formally confirmed on June 21 that he was not returning to Paramount+Design.
On the June 27 episode of CBS Mornings, King, 69, forced the Oscar-winning actor to ask if he and Sheridan were playing a game of “‘Whose (ego) is bigger?'” in a strange choice.
“(People) say that because of ‘Horizon,’ it caused problems for you on ‘Yellowstone,'” she said. “People say this about both of you: both with big egos, both very powerful, both at the top of your game, and right now, maybe you two are playing a game of who is bigger? Do you see it that way? Who is bigger, Kevin?”
Costner, 69, replied, “I love this show.”
“I liked this show before anything else. It was Taylor and me. The truth never changes – that love was really strong. The idea of going back – if I felt like it was like it I’d do it in a second… If it’s something I can do, want to do, I’ll fit it in,” he added. .
Despite Costner dodging the question, the veteran journalist focused more on why he and Sheridan “haven’t been able to work it out.”
“But your characterization need not be flattering,” King instructed him. “You make demands, you want a certain schedule, you want to shoot at a certain time, you want a certain amount of money.”
King continued: “If it’s not so difficult, why can’t the two of you be able to solve it? People would love to see it.”
“It’s not therapy, Gail, I mean we won’t discuss it on the show,” Costner responded.
King insisted that she was “a good doctor”, although Costner reiterated everything he had said so far regarding the layout. He said that he had run his program “in a very simple manner” and had “never missed any obligation” during his entire tenure.
The actor gave a homogeneous response to Society, declaring: “I loved it. I love that world.”
He added, “The scripts weren’t there” and he had an ancient priority: his ancient four-part movie mission, “Horizon: An American Saga.”
Despite his decision to move on, Costner described “Yellowstone” as a “beloved series” in his subsequent message to fans before the motion.
“I just realized that I won’t be able to continue through season five or in the future,” he said in his Instagram video.
“I liked it and I know you liked it too. I just wanted to let you know that I will not be returning,” he shared. “I love the relationships I have been able to develop. And I’ll see you in the movies.”
Sheridan, 54, commented on her and Costner’s dating so far following rumors of the actor’s advances in 2023. He expressed unhappiness at Costner’s departure, but did not make any negative comments about him.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in June 2023, Sheridan said, “My opinion of Kevin as an actor hasn’t changed.”
Sheridan told THR, “His creation of John Dutton is symbolic and powerful… and I never had a problem with Kevin that he and I couldn’t work on the phone.” “But once lawyers get involved, people can’t talk to each other and start saying things that aren’t true and shifting blame based on how the press or the public is reacting.” Let’s try. “He took this very seriously and I don’t know that anyone deserves that.”
Sheridan also commented on Costner’s “Horizon: An American Saga,” in which the actor is writer, director, producer and superstar.
“His film seems to be a big priority for him and he wants to change the focus. I have every hope that (the film) is worth it – and it’s good,” Sheridan said.
The first half of “Yellowstone” season 5 airs between November 2022 and January 2023. Shooting for a total of six episodes is currently underway and is scheduled to begin on November 10.
