The USA Basketball showcase continues this week with its second and final game in Abu Dhabi.
Team USA Basketball takes on Nikola Jokic and Serbia in its third pre-Olympic showcase game on Wednesday afternoon. The United States has won each of its first two games and had a close 98-92 win over Australia on Monday. Anthony Davis was a big part in the US victory with his 17 points.
Australia and Serbia faced off on Tuesday and the Boomers won 84-73. The Miami Heat’s Patty Mills led both teams in scoring in that game with 28 points – doubling Jokic’s 14-point total – on 7-for-13 shooting, including 4-for from 3-point range. -7 mark was also included.
Wednesday’s game also serves as a preview of the group stage of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games basketball tournament. The US and Serbia are both in Group C and will open their group matches at the Olympics against each other.
The United States will face Serbia in each team’s second game in Abu Dhabi.
United States leads Serbia 59-45 at halftime
After a struggling performance in the first 10 minutes, the US struggled in the second quarter. The scoring run that started about halfway through the quarter gave Team USA a 14-point lead at halftime.
Anthony Davis up to four blocks a day
A big part of Team USA’s scoring run has been the strong defense of Lakers big man Anthony Davis, who blocked several shots at the rim during the run. America leads Serbia 59-45.
The United States takes the lead with a score of 13–2.
Curry’s four-point play energized the Americans, who extended their lead to 53–42 with two minutes remaining in the second quarter.

The Celtics guard is on the court for his first minutes with the U.S. national team halfway through the second quarter.

Team USA regained the lead on a wide-open 3-pointer from Steph Curry, who continued the scoring by driving to the rim for two points and a four-point play on the next two possessions. US ahead, 44-40.
Curry, James pair up to help Embiid get an easy shot
The two multi-time NBA MVP winners combined for some beautiful passes that found Joel Embiid wide open for a quick two points under the rim.
Serbia takes the lead again
Bad turnovers continued to plague the US, allowing Serbia to take the lead with a pair of 3-pointers to start the third quarter. A tough drive by LeBron James ends an 8-0 run, but Serbia leads 34-31.
US-Serbia tied at 28 after first quarter
Serbia managed to get the ball down the court quickly after Team USA missed a few shots. He hit a buzzer-beating layup to tie the score as the first quarter ended.
Edwards also equaled America with Deep 3
After Team USA turned the ball around to start possession, the ball ended up in the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves star. Edwards drained a 3-pointer from the top of the key to tie the game at 24 with a minute remaining in the first quarter.
He then got a steal and was fouled going to the line, where he missed both free throws. The United States took the lead 26–24.
Jokic hits a hook shot over two defenders
With two Americans, the center passed to Dobrik for an open look from beyond the arc. After a missed shot, Jokic grabbed the board and made a hard shot on defense. Serbia leads 22–19.
Dobrik, Petrusev team up for lob and slam
On a separate possession after the steal, Serbian small forward Ognjen Dobrik threw a pass to center Filip Petrusev, who slammed it over Anthony Davis to give Serbia an 18–15 lead.
Jokic hears MVP chant at foul line
The three-time and reigning NBA MVP received chants of “MVP” from the crowd as he made two foul shots. Serbia now leads 16-13 at the first media timeout.
Serbia has taken the lead and taken the lead
Several miscommunications led to an upset by the United States, giving Serbia a chance to take the lead and advance to 8–0. Serbia leads Team USA 14-13 at halftime of the first quarter.
Steph Curry leads US scoring
After Team USA won the tip, Curry drained a 3-pointer from the left wing to start the scoring for both sides. He gave the Americans a 7–4 lead just two minutes into the game.
