‘Longlegs’ Megastar Nicolas Cage Breaks Down Unhealthy ‘Androgynous’ Transformation

Nicolas Cage has vivid memories of his mother, the late Pleasure Vogelsang, that stick with him even in this moment.

“My mother applied Noxzema cold cream. Cage continued to make his mother, who suffered from schizophrenia and severe depression throughout the week, the subject of his unsettling performances. He previously told EW, “I was thinking about what exactly was it that drove my mother crazy? It was an extremely personal kind of performance for me because of what she was going through. I grew up trying to deal with that in words that were like poetry, I didn’t know how else to put it because that’s really what they were. The film centers on FBI agent Lee Harker (Maika Monroe), who has incredibly over-the-top beliefs that some people could possibly be on the verge of the supernatural. After discovering a perp week situation later in the process, he is given the difficult task of catching the Longlegs Killer, who leaves behind coded messages at each crime scene.

He delivers the dolls he possesses to those houses, and among the dolls, the devil works his magic by forcing the father to murder his relatives and kill himself. In one incident, we are told that Harker had a similar name to Cobble when she was 9 years old and almost became one of his victims, although he had banned it from his mind. Alternatively, his mother, Ruth (Alicia Witt) made a deal with Coble: to further Harker’s week, she would send dolls to homes for him under the guise of nuns to clear up the confusion.

When audiences finally get a chance to get a good look at Cobble, Cage’s face is easily recognizable beneath the white makeup, puffy prosthetics, and wild hair. He has an unusual personality, constantly muttering to himself and even more constantly, chanting singsong or Biblical threats to himself in insane tones, which get louder until he attacks someone. Especially not yelling.

“I see Longlegs as neither male nor female,” Cage explains. “This character is very bisexual, and I often thought about bisexuality in the (Federico) Fellini film, believe it or not. Juliet and the Spirits, While the Prophet was talking she was saying, ‘Do I look beautiful to you?’ (Giulietta) Masina’s character and going through all those weird vocal screams and whatnot. Oz came up to the table and said, ‘Why don’t you grow your hair out in this shot?’ I thought, ‘This is awesome, man.’ let’s do that.’ And then I took the matter a little further and said, ‘Do you find me beautiful?’ They didn’t put it in the movie, but I wanted it to. I wanted to make Longlegs a character who was considered very beautiful.”

Cage began preparing for the role on Christmas Morning in 2022 before the impromptu blast took place in Vancouver at the beginning of the year. “I started memorizing my dialogue and tried to find a way into it,” he says of that dominated future. “I kept repeating it over and over again. By the time I got to Canada, I was shooting rehearsals on my cell phone and trying to find the moves and rhythms and melodies of the Longlegs character so that by the time I got to the set, It was dialed in and it became almost like a song or a bit of musical presentation.”

On the other hand, he did not get along well with his co-star, Monroe. He believes this may have been intentional in the Perkins phase. When Harker and Cobble come into a room together for the first time at the end of the film, it’s like the publicity treatment without the treatment — she finally comes face to face with the object that has been stalking her for years. Cage completely dominates this generation, which evolves until Cobble kills himself by repeatedly smashing his face against the interrogation desk.

“That scene for me was the explosive scene of the script and that’s why I wanted to make the movie,” says Cage. “I was full of anticipation the whole time I was shooting that scene. I’m a fan of Maika. I love her commitment to the genre. It is like this This was the first film I saw him in, which ended up being one of my favorite films of all time in this genre. So I got into it as a fan.”
