Morning Report: Nate Diaz supports Conor McGregor’s UFC 303 return: ‘There are inexperienced guys out there talking nonsense’

Nate Diaz is on Conor McGregor’s side regarding the UFC 303 debacle.

Two of the UFC’s biggest superstars of all-time have put aside their differences since last fighting at UFC 202 in August 2016. The two have had minor verbal altercations over the next eight years, but Diaz does not find the fight to be the first of McGregor’s career. Time to return as one.

“The Notorious” was scheduled to make his long-awaited return against Michael Chandler this Saturday night inside T-Mobile Arena at UFC 303. That was until McGregor suffered a broken pinky toe, claiming he didn’t want to go into a fight less than 100 percent. Diaz, 39, believes the community’s critical reaction to the decision has been exaggerated.

“I think it was just a little thing,” Diaz told MMA Junkie. “I think they made a bigger deal than that. good thought. If I mess up, I’d also like to push the fight back, but people fuck. I think I wouldn’t want to fight until I was 100 percent ready to rock, because in the past I’ve done all kinds of shit that I shouldn’t have done.

“So, I think he has learned from experience and all these inexperienced people talking nonsense are just speaking for his inexperience. He will have to deal with criticism until the fight is over, but I think it will happen and it will be all good.

Before McGregor steps back into the Octagon, Diaz continues his boxing career when he faces Jorge Masvidal in a boxing rematch next weekend. Diaz lost his first fight in MMA at UFC 244 in November 2019 when Masvidal scored a third-round stoppage TKO. He made his professional debut when he lost to Jake Paul by unanimous decision last August.

Despite no longer being a part of the UFC roster, Diaz ended his run with the promotion on a good note and has expressed his interest in fighting there again. Ultimately, a McGregor trio to level their 1-1 score is something he’s not ruling out of the question.

“Yeah, we’ll see what happens over time, you know?” Diaz said. “It depends on what happens with my fight, his fight, the UFC. I’m no prophet, you know what I’m saying? We’ll see what happens.”
