The Motorola Razr Plus and Razr are updated again for 2024 and packed with fun features. The Chicago-based company (owned by Lenovo) on Tuesday introduced new foldable phones with new colors, finishes, upgraded cameras, better displays, Moto AI and Google Gemini. At a press match in Brooklyn I was given the chance to look at and use an unused Motorola Razr Plus and Razr for about half an hour, and what struck me was how much fun is packed into these unused mobile phones.
I believe this was the greatest part of Motorola’s announcement: those Razrs are supposed to strike a balance between being trendy, entertaining, and leading edge. In a world of drab titanium, black and gray phones, each Razer is available in a rainbow of color options that are as fun to look at as they are to store. The thick information on that entry is that the Razer Plus is now available in red which is an immediate renaming of the fresh 2004 Razer V3 turn telephone which was available in red – you know, the only one was Paris Hilton!
However, are trendy phones enough to entice consumers to buy their first foldable phone? In a day where foldable phone shipments account for a slice of all phones sold, what worked for Motorola was offering a premium Razr Plus for $1,000 and a more affordable Razr for $700, as the company Did it last time. Alternative phone-makers have rejected this route.
According to research information company Counterpoint, Motorola shipped 1,473% more Razers in the first three months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. There’s clearly something about Motorola’s technology that’s working, even if it’s outperformed by a nice-looking bottom. So it makes sense for the company to keep that momentum going by launching two unreleased versions of the Razr at the same price as the Ultimate with major upgrades.
Whether Motorola has found the right combination of entertainment, model and generation for the country to explore the possibility of a foldable phone in 2024 remains to be seen. However I look forward to reviewing and testing each of the razors quickly.
Protect it: First look: 2024 Motorola Razr and Razr Plus come with colorful upgrades
The Razer and Razer Plus have a lot of similarities. The phones abandon the glass back slab we consider alternative devices and feature matching vegan leather-based backs, which we saw last time, but nowadays a lot of fake leather-based textures or even There is also a fake suede. In the days gone by with each telephone, they were a pleasure to maintain. Both Razers really feel like they come equipped with a beautiful and luxurious case that is built directly into the phone. And the faux leather strip on the back of the two-tone Nighttime Army Razor Plus really caught my attention.
Motorola is emphasizing this trendy look and feel, although the design may also be cutting edge. Both phones have an unused hinge that is 30% shorter than previous era models. A smaller hinge has fewer moving parts, which should be perfect for long-term strength. The smaller hinge also means there is less playing field for mud to enter. What’s interesting is that the Razrs from the previous era had negligible ratings for H2O resistance, but were the only foldables to be rated for dust resistance.
The 2024 Razr and Razr Plus are given an IPX8 rating for H2O resistance, meaning it will likely survive being submerged under H2O for up to half an hour – putting it on par with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Turn. The “X” in the ranking means there is no valid mud ranking for this age.
Another good thing about the smaller hinge is that wrinkles in the display screen are reduced. Oh, it’s still there, but it’s much less visible. I also noticed that the phone is more simple and similar in appearance than the previous model.
The internal display screens of both phones are brighter (up to 3,000 nits), which should be useful when outdoors. The internal and protected displays of both phones now feature Motorola’s untested H2O contact generation that allows the phones to respond to taps, touches and swipes even when using the phone in the drizzle – similar to what we saw on the OnePlus 12.

One area where the differences between the two phones start to appear is the refresh rate of the main 6.9-inch display. The refresh rate of the Razer Plus’ internal display screen is 165Hz, while the regular Razer’s display can go up to 120Hz, which is still noticeable. Over the past few years when I wore the phone, it would stop to notify me of any possible changes in refresh rates from one phone to another. However, I know gamer friends who might be excited for that extra 45Hz that the Razer Plus trades in.
Probably the biggest change on each phone are the reserve displays. The Razer Plus has an unused 4-inch preserved display screen. This is the same size as the display protected Honor Charm V Turn which was launched in China today.
The regular Razr inherits the 3.6-inch display screen of the 2023 Razr Plus. At the briefing I attended, it wasn’t possible to tell much between the two phones just from the display screen, but one hint is that the regular Razr has a small strip of vegan leather around the display screen controls.
The Preserve Display Screen tools and interface were updated. You can view any Android app on it and it has advanced tool panels that are much easier to navigate with an uncluttered “All Panel View” that you can get to by simply pinching and swiping outwards.

Both the phones have two external cameras which are embedded in the protected screen. I really like it the best, it’s very impressive. The main camera of each phone has an unused, large sensor with 50 megapixels and scene symbol stabilization. The regular Razr keeps the same 13-megapixel ultrawide camera from the last era.
However, the Razer Plus swaps last era’s ultrawide for an unused 2x telephoto 50-megapixel digital camera. Motorola told me that the reasoning behind the move was that the company found that its customers took more zoomed-in photos than ultrawide. Personally I like both telephoto and ultrawide lenses, and it would be hard for me to choose one over the alternative. However, I’m almost certainly inclined to pick up a telephoto lens.
Rounding out each device, the Razer Plus runs on the Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 chip and has a 4,000 mAh battery that supports 45-watt wireless charging, 15-watt wireless charging, and 5-watt reverse wireless charging. In contrast, the regular Razer runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 7300x chip, has a 4,200 mAh battery and supports 30-watt stressed charging and 15-watt wireless charging. Those numbers aren’t too brutal by themselves; We’ll see how their batteries fare in our tests.
Four other colors of the Motorola Razr Plus: (from left to right) Spring Green, Nighttime Blue, Hot Red, and Peach Fuzz.
It wouldn’t be a 2024 telephone setup with no mention of AI. The Razer Plus runs Moto AI, which is done both on the device and in the cloud, and can deliver on camera features like advanced portraits, autofocus in movies, and long exposure photos. I’m particularly excited to wrestle with the Razer Plus’s untested cameras to see if and how the untested hardware, Snapdragon chip, and Moto AI overcome the problems.
It also has features like “Pay Attention,” where the Razer Plus will record and transcribe a dialogue when asked, and a component called “Style Sync” that creates new wallpapers on your phone that fit the clothes you’re wearing. Or enhances them. In what remains just a laugh – the same assurance once again.
The Razer Plus will come with in-built Google Gemini and can also be accessed through a fully preserved screen if needed. With the purchase of Razer Plus you will also get additional 3 months of Gemini Complex benefits.
Moto AI won’t be coming to used models and is limited to the Razer Plus only. Motorola says additional Moto AI features will be added in the coming months and years.
It’s a good day to say that both the Motorola Razr and Razr Plus run on Android 14 and the company promises key OS tool support for three years and bi-monthly security updates for four years. This is a significant continuation from Motorola, but is cut short by Samsung’s four years of core Android tool updates and the Galaxy Z Turn 5’s five-year security update period.
The Moto Tag is a Bluetooth tracker with ultrawideband support that works with Android phones – not just Motorola gadgets.
Possibly one of the most unexpected things Motorola is saying is the Moto Tag, which actually elicited a gasp from a handful of newshounds at my briefing. It works on Google’s Find My Instrument network, supports ultrawideband and is compatible with all Android phones with Bluetooth.
The Moto Tag can be found with any Android phone, but it also includes a button you can press to find your phone. The same button can also be worn as a remote shutter button to snap a photo – once again, an otherwise fun component. The Moto Tag is available in two colors, green and blue, and can be installed in the United States on August 2 for $30.

The unused Motorola Razr Plus will be available for preorder on July 10 for $1,000 at T-Cell, AT&T, Motorola’s website, Amazon, and Perfect Purchase. The popular Motorola Razr is also available for pre-order on July 10th at T-Sale for $700, and can be found unlocked later on July 24th at Amazon, Perfect Buy, and Motorola.
I’ve got to hand it to Motorola: the company has undoubtedly made a splash with all the things it’s added and progressed to the Razr and Razr Plus. I’m always curious to see how those unused add-ons and lines actually perform and whether Motorola was able to manage the best Motorola Razr Plus of this era. One thing tells me, however, that I will be laughing a lot throughout the process.
