Connections is an assurance puzzle game published every month through the NYT, host of the ever-popular Wordle puzzle. Created each month by crossword puzzle-maker Wayne Liu, Connections gifts you with 16 clearly distinct phrases, and you have to work them together in four sets of four, where each team has 4 phrases. There is a common theme.
For example, the phrases “Hook”, “Nana”, “Peter”, and “Wendy” are all characters from Peter Pan. Or to paraphrase another example, “action”, “ballpark”, “go”, and “stick” are all words that often come immediately before the assurance “figure”.
Your task is to determine what the issues are that tie the various phrases together – be careful, however, as purple herring connections are deliberately placed there to irritate you as a result of accumulation over time! To win the game, you must find all four connections without making four mistakes. For your fourth mistake, it is game over and the solution is mechanically infallible.
Each of the four teams in each month’s Connections puzzle may be assigned a different color, indicating how easy or difficult it is to find the connection. Those colors are: yellow (best), green (easy), blue (medium), and red (hardest).
This concludes recent information on ways to solve the NYT Connections assurance puzzle.
