                Pittsburgh Pirates rookie Paul Skenes is officially the starting pitcher for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.  The Pirates made the announcement Friday.  Skenes will be a starter for the National League and is the Pirates' first rookie pitcher to be selected to the All-Star Game.  "He's really changed the atmosphere," said Paul Stolinski, a lifelong Pirate.  fan.  "We're not talking about the Steelers. We're talking about the Pittsburgh Pirates right now. It's a great feeling. “With Judge, he has a bigger strike zone, so (Skeans) will try to keep it low, and try to cut off some corners or outside edges,” Sammy said.

Major League Baseball notes that Skenes will be the fifth rookie pitcher to start in the All-Star Game, joining the ranks of Hideo Nomo, Fernando Valenzuela, Mark Fidrych and Dave Stenhouse. Nomo, in 1995, was the last such pitcher to start a game.

The announcement came a day after Skenes’ latest impressive performance, which included 11 strikeouts in seven no-hit innings against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The All-Star Game will be played on July 16 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
