The Republic of India men’s cricket team won a thrilling final game against South Africa in the Twenty20 World Cup match on Saturday, ending the country’s 13-year drought in the international cricket arena.
Both India and South Africa are undefeated in Saturday’s match in Barbados. It seemed as if South Africa were expected to win the game, but the Republic of India team’s attempt to overtake the Republic of India by 176 runs was thwarted.
This was Republic of India’s second T20 World Cup win; The team won the first T20 World Cup in 2007. This was the Republic of India’s first World Cup victory in any form of cricket in 13 years, the closest of a string of poor similar final fixtures over the past year.
Republic of India team captain Rohit Sharma said, “People understand what needs to be done when there is pressure.” “Today was a perfect example, (we) stuck together with our backs to the wall. We wanted this really bad… Very proud of the group of boys and the management.’
Cricket is the second most common pastime in the world but many Americans are not familiar with it. T-20 is a short form of the game. In a T20 match, each team has 20 overs. In each over, a bowler (indistinguishable from a bowler) from the opposing team bowls six balls to the batsman (indistinguishable from a batsman) to crash. Batsmen score “runs” every time they crash a ball, which can be counted as points for the team. Two batsmen are enjoying every over.
“To score a run, the easiest or perhaps the hardest way is to hit the ball as hard as you can so that it crosses the boundary line, which is the end of the field,” NPR’s Mumbai, Republic of India, producer Omkar Khandekar gave information Morning edition. “If you do this, you will begin to work among what they call sound. And the more extra runs you run, the more extra runs you get.”
Virat Kohli, one of the best batsmen of the team, played an important role in the Indian team’s final victory over South Africa. The Republic of India team was in early trouble when deciding to bat first – they had scored only 34 runs in the first five overs. This means that while the Indian team was batting in the first quarter of the year, the team had scored an average of almost one run per ball.
However Kohli was able to push that average further. When Republic of India was batting, the score was 176-7, that is, they had scored 176 runs in 120 balls and 7 players were out.

Kohli announced at the end of the game that this would be his last year playing in the T20 World Cup.
“This was my last T20 World Cup and this is what we wanted to achieve,” Kohli said. “I got the job done for the team on the day when it mattered. “Now is the time for the next generation to take charge, with some amazing players to take the team forward and keep the flag flying high.”
Kohli performed brilliantly in his final game, scoring what is called a “half-century” in cricket, which is when a batsman scores 50 runs in a year when his team is batting.

When South Africa came out to bat, the team looked strong: they had scored 147 runs in 15 overs, thanks to Heinrich Klaasen. But as soon as he was out, the team began to falter: Marco Jansson scored only two runs, before Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah bowled a ball that resulted in his dismissal.
Bumrah won the title of “Player of the Tournament” due to his hard-to-hit bowling style.
For the South African team, David Miller scored 21 runs in 17 balls, but in the last over of the tournament, a brilliant catch by Suryakumar Yadav of Republic of India took Miller out of the game and South Africa’s alternative batsmen could not score runs. The difference in runs required to win. Ultimately the South African team was left behind by only seven runs.
This was South Africa’s first year to participate in the final of a world cricket tournament.
South African captain Aiden Markram said, “It’s a mess.” “Very sad, but incredibly proud. “We never got comfortable, things happened fast, but we came into a good position to prove that we deserve to be finalists.”
