The US Olympic Track and Field Trials concluded with two of Team USA’s biggest stars in Rae Benjamin and Sydney McLaughlin-Levron.
The final event was the men’s 400 meters hurdles in which Benjamin was involved. The 26-year-old hurdler led from start to finish and recorded a meet record and world-leading time of 46.46.
But American track and field probably saved its best athlete for last – and McLaughlin-Levron performed well.
The reigning Olympic champion and world-record holder in the women’s 400 meters hurdles performed dazzlingly around the track, basically racing herself. When McLaughlin-Levron crossed the finish line she immediately learned that she had broken her previous world record with a time of 50.65.
McLaughlin-Levron is the only woman to run under 51 seconds in the 400 hurdles in the history of the event.
McLaughlin-Levron and Benjamin highlighted what was an exciting final day at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials:
Alaysha Johnson in Posterous interview: ‘It’s for the kids in the hood’
Emotions ran high on the track after the women’s 100m hurdles final.
Masai Russell stunned Hayward Field Stadium and the track and field world by winning in an impressive time of 12.25. Alysha Johnson ran a personal best 12.31 (12.302) to finish second.
Johnson’s interview was perhaps the most emotional postrace interview of the U.S. Olympic track and field trials.
“It was all God. Everyone said all the time that I wasn’t good enough (and) said I wasn’t worth it. So, I did it my way, my team’s way and the way it was supposed to be done,” Alaysha Johnson told Lewis Johnson. “This is for the kids who are poor and come from nowhere, this is for all the people who look like me who have ever been doubted. And I did it with a black designer on my chest. That’s what I stand for and I’m paving the way for everyone in my position.tyler dragon
Sydney McLaughlin-Levron breaks her own world record in the 400 hurdles
Sydney McLaughlin-Levron continued her dominance in the women’s 400 hurdles and set (another) world record at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials final on Sunday at Hayward Field. McLaughlin-Levron crossed the finish line in 50.65 seconds, then covered her mouth in shock after seeing her time.
McLaughlin-Levron’s previous world record, also set at Hayward Field, was 50.68, which she set at the 2022 World Championships.
Anna Cockrell (52.64) was second and Jasmine Jones (52.77) was third and will join McLaughlin-Levron in Paris.lindsay schnell
Bryce Hoppel sets meet record in 800
Hoppel stamped his ticket to Paris in a big way. Hoppel led both laps in the 800 and crossed the finish line with a meet record and personal best of 1:42.77.
Hoppel’s training partner Hobbs Kessler finished second with a personal best time of 1:43.64.
Brandon Miller took the third and final qualifying spot with a run of 1:43.97.tyler dragon
Grant Fisher, Abdihamid Nour fight will end at 5,000
Fischer and Noor were running fast in the final lap of the men’s 5000. But Fischer had one last kick that gave him the win as he posted a meet record time of 13:08.85.
Noor finished second in 13:09.01.
Parker Wolfe finished third with a personal best of 13:10.75.

Daniel Haw wins the Hammer
Hoff won the men’s hammer with a season’s best throw of 260 feet, 10 inches. Rudy Winkler finished second with a throw of 258 feet, 10 inches.
Hoff and Winkler were the only two throwers in the competition with the Olympic standard.
Shelby McEwen wins men’s high jump
Shelby McEwen won the event with a jump of 7 feet, 6½ inches. McEwen was the only jumper in the competition with the Olympic standard.
Can Quincy Wilson go to the Olympics?
Quincy Wilson, the 16-year-old sprinting sensation who wowed the Hayward Field crowd by reaching the finals in the men’s 400, has an outside chance of going to Paris to make the men’s 4×400 relay pool.
Hall finished sixth in the 400 final with a time of 44.94. He clocked 44.59 seconds in the trials semi-finals on June 23, the 24th fastest 400 in the world this year. He said after the final that he would not stop training until he was certain that his season was over, he also said that he was not sure whether he should expect to make the relay pool because of their decision. Are “very political”.
Relay pools are decided by relay coaches Mike Marsh and Maikel Freeman. They will announce the team before July 8, but athletes and their individual coaches will be notified sooner – possibly as late as Sunday night – so athletes can begin practicing together.lindsay schnell
Will Sydney McLaughlin-Levron set another record?
McLaughlin-Levron clocked 52.48 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles semi-finals on Saturday and easily advanced to the finals on Sunday.
Every time McLaughlin-Levron takes to the track there’s a chance she could set a world record, and some expect that to happen on Sunday. She is the defending gold medalist and a favorite to repeat it in Paris. McLaughlin-Levron also won gold in the 4×400 from Tokyo, and is expected to be on that relay team again.
