So, what are alternative retailers announcing regarding the game? Well, to start things off, God Is a Geek awarded the game a 9/10 and echoed our sentiments that the transfer model is the best way to play the game, but also went one step further and called it Called “possibly the best of the three Luigi’s Mansion games”:
“Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is a modern-looking remake, and there are no real bells and whistles to speak of. But that doesn’t really make it a bad game, far from it. And if you’ve never The chance to experience this fairly lengthy experience firsthand, you’re getting the best version with a multiplayer offering that’s easy to use, and the best fun out of the three Luigi’s Mansion games, whether you think it’s more Is the pricey one, or a strange choice for a remake does not change the fact that this is a very entertaining game with a lot to do, knowing that there is no additional content and this is an opportunity for those For those who missed out on experiencing it on 3DS, it’s best and you’ll be just fine.
VGC was similarly effusive with its 4/5 MegaStars assessment, calling it “another strong Nintendo remaster”:
“Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is another strong Nintendo remaster that doesn’t mess with the original too much, but offers enough improvements (especially in terms of visual detail) to make it a worthwhile release. The controls still aren’t perfect and Luigi’s Mansion 3 is a better game but the sheer charm packed into every crevice means it’s still worth a look.”
IGN’s 8/10 rating reiterated that the transfer model is one of the best ways to play a Luigi’s Mansion 2 game, though noted that it still doesn’t quite reach the heights of Luigi’s Mansion 3:
“With its vastly improved graphics and more flexible twin-stick control setup, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is undoubtedly the definitive version of Luigi’s second ghost-filled adventure. If you’re new to the series – or perhaps you only came across Luigi Mansion 3 and you’re working your way backwards – then there’s plenty of ghost-hunting and puzzle-solving fun for you in the five haunted houses of Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, however, if you’re playing the original Nintendo 3DS version. If you’re a fan of . is a fantastic installment in Nintendo’s Specter-snaring series, even if it’s not the best you can play on the Switch.”
Destructoid awarded the game a 7/10, praising the advanced optic but criticizing the stilted challenge creation:
“It would be hard not to be mesmerized by the graphics and animation in luigi’s mansion 2, because the passion behind them is practically tangible. Even the central focus of puzzle-solving and ghost-catching is fun in its own right. However, I can’t possibly overstate how much enjoyment is taken away from strict adherence to completely linear chapter progression. It is like a hospital painted in vibrant colours. It does a lot to brighten things up, but you can only do so much to balance out the sterility.”
GameSpot referred to the game as an odd reach within the line in its 7/10 assessment, declaring that it is “neither a pioneering nor a sophisticated third entry”:
“Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon on the 3DS was a surprising revival for an unconventional game. Now that we have Luigi’s Mansion 3, the series has come more into its own, and the second game is neither the trailblazer nor the sophisticated third This is what makes Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD a unique one – less essential than some of the other Switch remakes, but an interesting middle step in the evolution of Luigi’s puzzle series, with its own charm and place in the series’ history.
Of course, TechRadar was a little more critical of the experience with its 3/5 megastar assessment, declaring that the upgrades likely wouldn’t justify the cost level for returning gamers:
“Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is a no-frills port of the 3DS game with some minor visual upgrades. It won’t win over those who disliked the original, but it’s a solid experience for everyone else.”
