Samsung’s Galaxy Buds 3 look like AirPods, although they are no longer used

I’ve had some limited hands-on opportunities with the buds, but I don’t look forward to properly reviewing them yet, so this isn’t a full review. I have some early impressions about their design and the plethora of options and specifications so to speak.

Galaxy Buds 3 is the successor to the Galaxy Buds

Available in white or silver, the Galaxy Buds 3 are unattached earbuds like the regular AirPods. Like Samsung’s previous unengaged earbuds galaxy buds are alive (aka the beans), according to Samsung, the Buds 3 feature some active noise cancellation. I’m not expecting it to be that effective as ANC often doesn’t work well with unattached buds. I will be able to comment more on that when I see the buds more fully.

Like AirPods, these are designed for people who don’t like to have ear pointers jammed in their ears and like to hear the outside world. They’re light and comfortable and fit a minute more securely than my in-ears airpods 3, Both the Buds 3 and Buds 3 Professional feature pinch controls just like the original AirPods (I liked their pinch controls) as well as swipe controls to control volume levels. Both models also have ear detection sensors that play your audio when you take a bud out of your ear and resume playback when you put the bud back in. Since unengaged earbuds allow ambient sound to spill into your ears and don’t act as a good seal, bass efficiency can also be a matter of concern. The Galaxy Buds 3 have a single 11mm dynamic driver. The Buds 3 are rated for up to 6 hours of battery life with ANC off and 5 hours with it on (the charging case charges wirelessly and has a dedicated Bluetooth button). Each new earbud is supplied with Bluetooth 5.4, IP57 H2O and dust-resistant and the fresh AuraCast feature with backup LE audio (Samsung’s 360 Audio feature may be on board). The IP57 rating shows that the buds aren’t completely water resistant, but they are able to withstand sustained splashes of H2O.

Galaxy Buds 3 Professional, the new flagship

The Galaxy Buds 3 Professional are Samsung’s new flagship earbuds and are available in white and silver colors. They have a few key differences from the Galaxy Buds 3. Firstly, they are noise-isolating buds and come with a collection of small, medium and large ear indicators to choose from (it’s important to get a good seal to get optimal sound qualities).

They have both active noise cancellation and transparency approaches. ANC is an adaptive selection and proves to be quite excellent – ​​at least on the limited occasion I had the buds in my ears. Samsung says, “The microphones on the Buds 3 series analyze both internal and external sound in real-time to enhance sound quality and active noise cancellation through Adaptive EQ and Adaptive ANC.”

Additionally, the Buds 3 Professional, “continuously collect and detect ambient sound and automatically adjust to the optimal level of noise and sound without manual adjustment through Adaptive Noise Control, Siren Detect and Voice Detect. ” It sounds indistinguishable from the AirPods Pro 2’s adaptive audio features, although the Buds 3 Professional don’t have the dialogue awareness method.

While the Galaxy Buds 3 have a single dynamic driver, the Buds 3 Pro have a 10mm dynamic driver with an independent planar tweeter, which helps deliver clear-sounding highs. Samsung also says that the Buds 3 Pro have dual amps, which helps in eliminating wireless issues.

In my initial listening tests, I found that the buds had better tone than the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro. The tone of the Buds 2 Pro is excellent but the treble clarity and bass definition of the Buds 3 Pro are commendable and they make the tone cleaner and more accurate overall.

Another remaining feature of the Buds 3 Professional are the lighting fixtures in their stems or “blades,” as Samsung calls them. They’ll let you know that the buds are in the process of pairing and they’ll glow when you use the Find My feature because the buds make a chirping sound (making them easier to find in a cloudy room). You can additionally easily turn on the light fixtures by pinching and holding each bud for a few seconds and move the buds around with the light fixtures turned on if you so desire.

The Buds 3 Pro also have an IP57 rating for dirt and H2O resistance. The battery life of the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro is rated at 7 hours with noise cancellation on and six hours with it on. Its charging case also has a dedicated button for wireless charging as well as Bluetooth pairing so you can pair the buds with various Bluetooth audio devices more easily.

Advanced voice-calling

Samsung has typically done an excellent job with voice-calling efficiency in its Galaxy Buds models, and these new Line 3 models deliver efficient voice-calling efficiency with top-level noise relief. The Buds 3 lack twin amps, lighting fixtures in their stems, a transparency method (they’re unattached earbuds, so you don’t need one), Adaptive Noise Regulate, and the Resonance Discover/Siren Discover feature. As far as optional specific features for Galaxy smartphone users go, they have automatic pairing and audio switching with Galaxy devices, including Galaxy PCs. This is like claiming otherwise that they have multipoint Bluetooth pairing for Galaxy units.

Each bud additionally supports the Samsung Seamless codec, which Samsung says is now capable of delivering 24bit/96kHz high-resolution streams with HD song streaming carriers like Qobuz or Tidal. That codec is only available with some Galaxy devices, but the Buds’ default audio codec is AAC, which sounds fine (iPhones and other Android devices will use AAC.)
