Smartwatches in 2024: What were the biggest launches so far this week?
Bearing in mind that we’re still expecting some big releases soon (more on those later), 2024 is looking like a stacked week for smartwatches.
March saw the arrival of the Garmin Forerunner 165, a highly affordable smartwatch from the company that has recently taken the industry by storm. Speaking of affordable options, we’ve already opened up two great contenders for our most affordable condition tracker list – the Honor Band 7 and the Xiaomi Rogish Band 8 Pro – if you want something more minimalist than a smartwatch. The former has excellent battery speed and a pleasantly heavy, bright AMOLED panel, though it lacks integrated GPS. Offers maximum GPS support, and is priced at $99.99 / £60 / AU$95 (although it is possible to get it for a much lower price).
Back to smartwatches, and the undoubted Wear OS highlight of the week has been the OnePlus Monitor 2 (below). It arrived a few months ago and has already made its way to our list of the best smartwatches. We called it the “comeback king” in our OnePlus Monitor 2 review for its sheer capability with Google’s Wear OS, sleek looks, and its excellent dual-frequency GPS tracking.
Looking for a complement to the Garmin That’s Condition First and Smartwatch 2D? The untouched Suunto Race is a better smartwatch competition from the Finnish corporate. Finally, Samsung gave us a sneak peek of what it has to offer back in 2024 with the awe-inspiring presentation of the Samsung Galaxy FE in June. This is Samsung’s solution to the Apple Monitor SE and it’s priced at $199 for the Bluetooth-only model (negative global pricing right now, but that equates to around £160 / AU$300). Meanwhile, the LTE model will set you back $249 (about £190 / AU$360).

We’ve seen a fair number of great smartwatches launched this week, but the ‘Big 3’ are yet to arrive. He’s about to switch.

Samsung is expected to launch its Samsung Galaxy Monitor 7 very soon, probably on July 10 to coincide with its subsequent Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event. As is often the case, most of the details have already been leaked before the generation.
