Teoscar Hernandez is the new MLB Home Run Derby champion.
Hernandez defeated Kansas City Royals star Bobby Witt Jr. in the final round of the Home Run Derby at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on Monday — after a very interesting rendition of the national anthem. Hernandez barely defeated Witt in the final round as Witt’s last attempt, which could have tied Hernandez, failed painfully.
Hernandez is the first Los Angeles Dodgers player to win the Home Run Derby and the seventh Dominican-born player to win the event. His win also earned him a $1 million bonus.
There were some notable changes to the derby this year, which increased the pace of the event slightly. All eight players played in the first round, and then the top four performers – Hernandez, Witt, Alec Bohm and Jose Ramirez – advanced to a bracket-style final four. Pete Alonso, who was looking for his third derby win, Adolis Garcia, Gunnar Henderson and Marcell Ozuna all went out in the early stages.
Witt defeated Ramirez in the semifinals by hitting 17 home runs in the innings. Ramírez hit only four home runs in his first 25 pitches in that span.
Hernandez defeated Bohm in a thrilling semi-final swing-off after each player hit 14 home runs in the battle for a spot in the finals.
Hernandez finished first in the championship round, and he immediately looked a little nervous. He hit only four home runs in his first 14 pitches before his timeout, but he came out firing and drilled five of his next six out of the park to finish with 11 home runs before his bonus round, including He added three more homers. Arrive at 14.
With that number to beat, Witt was also slow out. He missed his first five hits and then called his timeout with only four home runs and 15 pitches remaining. Nonetheless, a strong finish moved him up to 11th in regulation, matching Hernandez’s mark.
But Witt missed his first two shots in the bonus round, immediately falling behind. Although he hit two home runs to give himself a chance, his last attempt stopped just short of the center-field wall.
This officially gave the title to Hernandez.
MLB’s All-Star weekend concludes with the All-Star Game on Tuesday. After this the season will resume on Friday.

Witt matched that tally with 11 home runs in regulation, then drove in two runs with two outs remaining in the bonus round. On his final out, Witt hit a ball to deep center field that had a chance.
But it bounced off the wall and stayed in the park to secure the title for Hernandez.

Teoscar Hernandez presents first derby performance
It’s clear that Teoscar Hernandez was laboring after two rounds and a swing-off, but he still managed to send a healthy number of homers into the upper deck in left field in his final round.
Hernandez has long been one of the more underrated power hitters in the game, and his performance on Monday at Globe Life Field — even if Bobby Witt Jr. is able to surpass Hernandez’s total of 14 — was a good reminder of that. Was. He may still prevail as our champion.
Vit will take action soon…

Hernandez wins swing-off, advances to final vs. Witt
A swing-off! We’ve seen a few of these over the years, and they rarely disappoint. After Hernandez and Boehm were tied 14–14 in the semifinals, each player was given three swings – and only three swings – to add to his or her total.
Hernandez went to first and scored home on two of his three swings, putting pressure on Boehm to match… which he didn’t. Bohm deserves credit for performing better than many expected at this event, but Hernandez strikes me as a more traditional power hitter who would be perfect for a finals showdown with Bobby Witt Jr.
Bohm struck out swing-off
Alec Boehm, the last contestant in the semi-finals, got off to a slow start. But after one timeout, they turned things around and ended up tying Teoscar Hernandez’s 14 homer, sending things into the always interesting swing-off.
In the end, Bohm didn’t have enough to defeat Te’o, who homered on two of his three swings before Bohm only got a swing-off dinger. Nevertheless, it was an impressive performance from Boehm, who was never known for his power.

Alec Bohm’s slow start in the last at-bat of the semi-finals. He has three home runs on 23 pitches and 1:41 remaining in the timeout.
“It’s not much,” he said during his break.
it.
Can Hernandez beat Bohm in the semi-finals?
Outside of Ozuna, Teoscar Hernandez hit the most spectacular home runs in the first round, with several long balls traveling more than 440 feet and a maximum of 466.
The moon shots continued in Round 2, but without as much consistency, and Hernandez is now on shaky ground, with a total of 14 homers, as Alec Bohm prepares for quite a surprise run to the finals if he can match Hernandez’s modest total. Can cross.
Teoscar Hernandez finished with 14, adding a home run in his bonus round. Is this enough to stop Alec Bohm? The winner moves on to face Bobby Witt Jr. for the Home Run Derby crown.
Here’s more information about the much-talked-about national anthem.
Teoscar Hernandez found his rhythm after the timeout. Finishing with 13 home runs in regulation before his bonus round.
Teoscar Hernandez is seeded first in the other semifinal matchup and is fighting to become a star. Three home runs in 18 swings before his timeout.
Jose Ramirez lost in the semifinals
A truly courageous effort from Ramirez, whose raw power doesn’t remotely measure up compared to the rest of the infield, but whose ability to consistently deposit drawn fly balls over the right field fence was on display until Until he leaned against it. Bobby Witt Jr. in the semi-finals.
Most importantly, I’m glad that Ramirez — a switch-hitter who bats lefty — advanced to the semifinals so that fans sitting in right field could get another chance to snag some derby dingers, given that That a large part of the field is swinging to the right.
More importantly, Bobby Witt Jr. has advanced to the finals, leading to the possibility of a storybook ending to tonight’s show.
