Texas A&M is two games – maybe three games away – from achieving a historic feat for the first time in baseball.
With two wins over the No. 1 nationally seeded Tennessee baseball team in the College World Series championship series, the No. 3 seeded Aggies would have won the program’s first CWS title. But that possibility is easier said than done, as Aggies coach Jim Schlossnagle probably knows.
Texas A&M is 1-4 versus Tennessee under the Aggies coach, whose Vols counterpart, Tony Vitello, actually served as his recruiting coordinator at TCU from 2011-13. Schlossnagle’s only win over Tennessee came in the 2023 SEC Baseball Tournament, and the Vols defeated the Aggies 7–4 in the 2024 edition of the tournament.

Additionally, Texas A&M is dealing with several injuries as it heads toward the game’s biggest stage, including to potential top-10 draft pick Braden Montgomery. Jace Laviolette hurt his hamstring on Monday against No. 2 national seed Kentucky, but he returned and was able to play against Florida in the CWS semifinals on Wednesday.

7:35 pm: Laviolette drew a walk to lead off the inning.

7:29 pm: Prager works out of the jam after forcing a fly out and line out to end the inning. Texas A&M limits the damage in the second.
7:27 pm: Prager forced Tears to foul out, but Curley singled up the middle to score Dreiling from third. Tennessee got one run back.
7:24 pm: Texas A&M had some trouble in the second, as Tennessee got back-to-back runners on a pair of singles to extend the inning.

7:18 pm: Grahovac struck out the pitcher to end the inning. The Aggies have been having trouble with Causey since his arrival.
7:13 pm: Cousy has excelled in relief, already having four strikeouts in 1 and 1/3 innings. He started the second with back-to-back strikeouts of Kent and Chestnut.

7:10 pm: Prager removed the Vols from the order by striking out 3-hole hitter Billy Amick. Great start for the left handed batsman.
7:06 pm: Prager got off to a comfortable start, as he struck out Brock Burke for his second out of the inning. Prager is dialed quickly.
7:02 pm: Prager forced Tennessee’s leadoff hitter Christian Moore to come to shortstop to start the night. This is a big deal, as Moore has been very popular in the CWS.

6:58 pm: Camarillo struck out swinging in the bottom of the inning, stranding two in scoring position, but the Aggies scored with an early combo to take a 2–0 lead.
6:57 pm: Sorrell stole second, his ninth of the season, to put two runners in scoring position for the Aggies. Ali Camarillo is up to bat.
6:56 pm: And Sorrell has an RBI single! He hooks it to right-center field to score Appel and advance the shot to third. Aggies lead 2-0!
6:54 pm: And Burton struck hard. Caden Sorrell is next.
6:54 pm: AJ is ready to get Cousy Walls out of a jam. Initially he will face Ted Burton.
6:50 pm: Dean Curley was called for an error as soon as the shot was reached. Tony Vitello has seen enough and is taking Stamos out.
6:49 pm: Hayden’s shot hits a low-backer on the pitching mound, and it takes a high hop allowing Appel to advance to third. The Aggies have runners on the corners.
6:46 pm: And now a double from Jackson Appel! The Aggies have a leadoff home run and a double in their first three at-bats.
6:44 pm: Jace Laviolette flied out to left field for No. 1.
6:42 pm: How about Grahovac? The freshman started the game with a bang, giving the Aggies a 1-0 lead with a solo home run to right field.
