For the third time in a row, Vienna, the capital of Austria, is the most liveable city in the world, according to the Economist Logic Unit.

The once-a-year file aims to measure how comfortable or livable a city is and tested 173 cities globally in response to 30 indicators organized into 5 divisions: balance, fitness support, tradition and size, training and Infrastructure.

Buoyed by its best ratings for balance, fitness support, training and infrastructure, Vienna leads the list this time, followed by its Western European counterparts: Copenhagen, Denmark in second and Zurich, in third. Switzerland.

In line with the EIU World Liveability Index for 2024, “due to the lack of major sporting events,” Vienna’s overall rating, even though it scored the best possible touchdown on the checklist, resulted in a slight bump within the tradition and size divisions.

“The EIU’s liveability index has increased marginally compared to last year,” the file said. “The decline in sustainability and infrastructure in many cities in advanced economies was offset by structural improvements in health care and education in many cities in developing markets.”

Listed here are the ten most liveable cities on the planet, according to the EIU.

  1. Vienna, Austria
  2. Copenhagen, Denmark
  3. Zurich, Switzerland
  4. Melbourne, Australia
  5. calgary, canada
  6. Geneva, Switzerland
  7. Sydney, Australia
  8. Vancouver, Canada
  9. Osaka, Japan
  10. auckland, unused zealand

Four Asia-Pacific cities currently feature in the top 10: the Australian cities of Melbourne and Sydney, plus Osaka, Japan, and Auckland, New Zealand.

Melbourne, Sydney and Vancouver meanwhile made Rule 10, although slipped “amid significant reductions in housing availability”, the EIU said. For the same reason, Toronto fell to 12th place this time, the next rating of some of the top 10 in the past two years.

Western Europe was once the best-performing patch for liveability globally, scoring a total of 92 out of 100, but again, this has declined due to protests and an increase in crime, according to the file. Weighed accordingly on the balance block. ,

North United States was the second favorite patch, scoring an average of 90.5 out of 100, giving the best possible rating for training. On the other hand, the EIU said, the ongoing housing crisis in Canada has worsened the patch’s infrastructure rating.

10 most liveable cities in Asia

The liveability ratings of Asian cities continue to rise globally. Notably, Hong Kong recorded the biggest jump during this period, rising from 61st to 50th.

According to the EIU, “Although still not back to pre-2019 scores, Hong Kong’s political landscape has (stabilised), the risk of disruption from large-scale protests is now negligible.”

The EIU said, “The national security law and local regulations introduced in 2024 have restored political stability, but this change in score reflects a larger change for Hong Kong’s civil society, as measured by our separately published Democracy Index. That’s reflected in the city’s falling scores.” ,

Asia’s 10 most livable cities:

  • Melbourne, Australia (4th globally)
  • Sydney, Australia (seventh)
  • Osaka, Japan (ninth safe)
  • Auckland, New Zealand (ninth reserved)
  • Adelaide, Australia (11th)
  • Tokyo, Japan (14th)
  • Perth, Australia (15th)
  • Brisbane, Australia (16th)
  • Wellington, New Zealand (twentieth)
  • Singapore, Singapore (twenty-sixth)

Singapore, ranked 26th in the world, also recorded a huge jump, and was the second-biggest progressor in the last 365 days. In particular, younger Southeast Asians scored an impressive 100 points in the health care section.

The eastern cities of Osaka and Tokyo also made the Top 10 list for Asia. “As the most populous city among the top 20, Tokyo deserves extra credit for being able to maintain high standards of public service provision and safety amid a huge population,” the EIU said.

On the other hand, the liveability rating of Indian cities has declined, partly due to the rural poor wind characteristic. According to the EIU, “Infrastructure development is also a priority for the government, but given the size and geography of the country, it will take time to improve.”

“Of the 58 Asian cities included in the index, 16 have achieved the highest level of liveability (scores above 80),” said Barsali Bhattacharya, EIU’s deputy business director.

“However, 11 Asian cities received scores below 60, the point at which we define liveability as being severely constrained, as these cities struggle with structural, political and climate problems that need to be addressed.” Difficult,” he said.

According to the report, the stability segment recorded the largest decrease among all five divisions during this period, due to geopolitical wars, civil unrest as well as ongoing housing extremism and crime in many of the cities surveyed.

least livable city

The bases are governed through 10 towns in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East and North Africa regions. According to the report, Damascus, Syria and Tripoli, Libya are among the two lowest cities to live in after civil unrest has battered their economies.

The city of Kiev in Ukraine is the ninth least livable city on the planet, as the country grapples with an active armed war following Russia’s invasion in February 2022.

Israel’s capital Tel Aviv was the biggest faller this time, falling 20 places to 112th globally due to the ongoing war with Hamas since October 7. More than 1,200 people were killed on the Israeli side, according to the United Nations, with more than 37,000 Palestinians reported killed in the week.
