Before reaching Texas, Beryl wreaked havoc in Tulum, Mexico, where it left thousands without power as it swept through as a Division 2 hurricane.

Wind and smog affected the coastal city till Friday. Civilians took shelter in schools and residences, and authorities patrolled beaches to evacuate civilians and concerned tourists.

Displaced people were able to receive some relief and food in shelters, with soup kitchens arranged by the army. Others took the risk of traveling through heavily flooded roads.

Caribbean
However, Beryl’s heaviest destruction was in the Caribbean, where entire cities – or even entire islands – were destroyed. The Division 5 hurricane blew roofs off homes and destroyed boats on shorelines. Waves full of particles hit the sand.

In Jamaica’s capital, Kingston, an area was transformed into a safe haven with rows of thin beds and blankets.
