In its 5th main evolution, Dawntrail, Ultimate Fiction XIV faces its biggest existential emergency yet: where does your story go now that its 10-year-old A-plot has ended? Dontrell proceeds with a relaxing summer season trip to the land of Tural, who acts as a computer virus for the long-running MMO’s story. Dontrail doesn’t fit the narrative heights of the former pair of expansions and is unsuited to other strategies, though issues of its legacy, the value of tradition, and the accountable quality of the era come to the fore immediately.

Feeling more like a shonen anime than a mythic epic of dated expansion, Dontrail really has a different feel from the hours I’ve put into FFXIV so far. It begins with a meeting of the varieties, where four claimants are vying for the name Donservant to replace the beloved retired ruler of the new continent of Tural. In exchange for being the focus, I am helping the lead personality of this development, the vibrant and passionate Vuk Lamat, compete in a ceremony of succession through completing tests, in an attempt to ascend to the rulership of his family. .

Instead of being thrust into battle, they are refresher test management courses, proving whether each contestant is worthy of the throne of Donservant. I wish the task of completing these quests were bigger than just menial tasks, though Dontrell’s excellent world building more than made up for my boredom from the lack of action in the early hours. At the core of each test are interesting courses related to the different cultures and regions of Tural according to the Latin American countries. I am surprised by how much I connected with the commercial trade-focused Pelupeleu and feel joy in reconnecting the colorful bird population called Hanuhanu with value and witchcraft in their harvest rituals. When things inevitably go south after development, the support I provide regarding Tural’s family is going towards strengthening my desire to make things fair for them.

Despite its simple premise, Dontrell tackles some big boxes during the ceremony of succession and the past. Vuk Lamat aims to usurp the throne in order to preserve the stream recess his father created for Tural over several decades. On the other hand, she is not alone in the race for the name Donservant. His brother Koana is in favor of improving the world with foreign science. Every other brother wants to get entertainment by conquering everything, imagining going back to the tough and mean Bakool Jaa spoiled strategy where the most powerful rule and the weak ones submit under them. Through each of his movements, Dontrell explores how we deal with depression, the legacies we release when our week in this mortal coil ends, and the perversions of herbal form using complex eras. The more I delve into the philosophical rabbit holes of Dontrell, the more invested I am becoming and more forgiving of some of its dry tonal shifts and coffee personality inconsistencies.
While sometimes I like his anime dominant personality power, it’s sometimes hard to recast Vuk Lamat as a great ruler of his hordes. Her passion is infectious, and her interest and willingness to pay attention and be informed is infectious, even though her activities constantly war with her religious ideals. While striving to be a beacon for justice and entertainment, Vuk Lamat periodically sacrifices her beliefs and instead sweeps major atrocities under the rug, for which she could demand responsibility in a different way . It’s disappointing that these aren’t the moments from which she draws her greatest lessons, rather these are the moments from which she sidesteps issues, shying away from clever and complex conversations that should have been explored.

Dungeons and Trials of Dawntrell continues to be a point of pride, offering admirable combat events with some of the most productive tunes on evolution’s catchy soundtrack. Each and every boss sports specific mechanics that are intuitive to tell and build off of each other, setting up complex and enjoyable battle puzzles to solve for those who are paying attention. After enjoying an MMO for many hours, it’s great to have difficult content that tests what I’ve learned and offers new ways to keep me back on my feet.

Dontrell does not succeed at the heights of previous Ultimate Fiction XIV expansions, although its path is different. Its project is to start a fantastic new story, and it completely succeeds in hitting the stories a few times while weaving a masterful tale about inheritance and loss. Even though I have complaints about the week of exploration and the contradictory actions of the main personality, I loved the week spent exploring Tural and I can’t wait to see what the story’s subsequent bankruptcy brings.
