If one’s expectations were so low that one could think of nothing but second-hand embarrassment from the exchange that ended the evening, the latter probably wouldn’t amount to much.
On Ukraine and Israel, President Biden and former President Trump bickered, confused and incensed their way through an 11-minute foreign policy discussion, turning away from the topics only in fleeting moments of incoherence during the time on point.
For Trump, these were surface-level attacks on how, in his view, Biden’s position and lack of leadership in the “shameful” Afghanistan withdrawal in September 2021 led Putin to attack Ukraine and Hamas to attack Israel ( He repeated this in various examples during the 90-minute debate, which took the playing field in Atlanta and without a live target audience).
Biden hit back, saying Trump openly encouraged Putin to invade in February 2022 and reiterated that if not stopped, the Russian president would spread violence across Europe to re-establish the “Soviet Empire.” As far as Israel is concerned, he claimed the White Space Armistice Agreement that no one, neither Hamas nor Israel, has any secret capability to be specifically involved, for weeks.
Eli Clifton of the Quincy Institute quipped, “None of the candidates put forward a vision for how the United States can engage positively with the world in a way that promotes American interests and tackles climate change, nuclear proliferation, and To address the shared existential threats posed by rising great power tensions.” ,
This is an underestimate. With the enormous gravity of two major wars simultaneously raging on this planet, two men competing for the role of commander in leadership appeared with the intention of talking about these problems only within the narrow circle of their choice. Trump was relatively more detailed – citing the cost of blood and investment and a desire to end, in particular, the war in Ukraine, blaming Europe for what he called freeloading. However, his claim to be able to end the war in Ukraine, while still the President-elect, was not supported by anything but his sheer insistence that it could happen.
For his part, Biden made statements that did not match wavering geopolitical fact, but harked back to the times of D-While and The Biggest Day, declaring at one stage that “we are are the most admired countries.” His attempt to show that he was withholding 2,000 pounds of silent bombs from Israel for humanitarian reasons was briefly undermined by his oath that the US was giving Israel everything it wanted. And the peace phase was loudly proclaiming that “we are the largest producer of support for Israel in the world.”
At the end of the debate when Trump was saying that Biden would “push us into World War III,” the audience was probably too dull to react. The morning will feature a selection of spins from both sides and will likely focus on alternative issues: fact-checking Trump, Biden’s generation and role, who is the better golfer, and the ongoing controversy over the 2020 election and January 6.
So it’s best to put those exchanges out there verbatim, so that other people actually have something to worry about. It looked great during the international coverage that ended the evening; However the solutions were edited slightly for duplication and space (you’ll thank us).
CNN hosts Dana Bash for Trump: President Vladimir Putin says he will be able to end the conflict only if Russia helps maintain the Ukrainian border it already claims, and Ukraine drops its bid to join NATO. Do these words of Putin apply to you?
Trump: First of all, our veterans and our foot soldiers cannot move beyond this man (Biden). They are not able to lift it. They believe he is the worst commander to lead, if you want to call him that, that we have ever had. They can’t get it up, so let’s get this straight. And so he likes me better in any of them, and this is in accordance with every bit of knowledge. As far as Russia and Ukraine are concerned. If we had a real president, a president who knew, who Putin respected, he would never have invaded Ukraine. A group of the mob are currently useless, more than the mob knows. You recognize that they talk about numbers. You will be able to double the number of units, possibly even triple the number of units. They did nothing to ban it. In fact, I believe (Biden) encouraged Russia to get involved. Let me tell you what happened. He treated Afghanistan so impurely. It was this kind of terrible embarrassment, the most shameful generation in the history of our country, that Putin witnessed, and he felt incompetent…
…The rest is that (Putin) would never have invaded Ukraine, just as Israel would never have been invaded through Hamas in a million years. Do you recognize why? Because Iran used to be needy with me. I won’t let anyone do business with them. He ran out of cash. They were needy. That he had refused to give cash to Hamas. They refused to give cash for anything, refused to give cash for terror. That is why you have ended terror in the entire world under my leadership, in this playground, under his (Biden) leadership.
biden: I have never heard such nasty things about my entire future. Look, the reality of the matter is that we are in that situation, let’s shock the closing level first. Iran attacked American soldiers, killed many of them and caused psychological harm, and he did nothing, now that he was president, they attacked there. He said he was just having complications. This is everything. They did not take any action when the attack happened on the playground. primary. Second, we got more than 100,000 American citizens and others out of Afghanistan in that airlift. Number 3, we found ourselves in a situation where, if you look at what Trump did in Ukraine, this guy said (Putin) do whatever you want, do whatever you want. And that’s exactly what Trump did with Putin, instigated him, do whatever you want. And he went in, and when he went in he concentrated on what he said. (Putin) was going to Kiev in five days. Note, since it is part of the former Soviet Union, he wanted to reestablish Kiev. And in fact, he didn’t do that at all. He couldn’t win, wasn’t prepared to get it implemented. And so they’ve lost, they’ve lost thousands and thousands of soldiers, 500,000 soldiers.
BASH: President Trump, I just want to go back to my latest question, which is, are Putin’s words appropriate for you to maintain fear in Ukraine?
Negatively, they are no longer applicable. Look, though, this is a fight that might as well have never started. If only we had a pace-setter on this conflict. (Biden) led by taking everyone along. They have now given Ukraine $200 billion or more. They’ve given away $200 billion – that’s a bunch of cash. I don’t think there’s been anything else that makes it irresistible. Every time Zelensky comes to this country, leaves with $60 billion, he is the best salesman ever. And I’m not beating him anymore. I’m not knocking anything else anymore. I’m just talking about the money we’re spending on this fight, and we shouldn’t be spending, it should never have happened. I, as president-elect, can resolve that conflict between Putin and Zelensky before I take office on January 20. The population is being killed so unnecessarily, so senselessly, and I can get it sorted out. And I’ll get it over with quickly before the place of business gets shaken up.
Biden: The truth is that Putin is a struggling criminal. He has killed thousands and thousands of the mob, and he has created something that has been illuminated by sunlight, he wants to reestablish what used to be a part of the Soviet Empire, now only a fragment No. He wants all of Ukraine. This is what he wants. And later you assume that he will ban there? Do you think when he will impose sanctions, if he is going to take Ukraine, what do you think will happen to Poland, Belarus? What do you think will happen to these NATO countries? And so if you want to fight, you have to figure out what to do, because really, he does what he says and goes – and by the way, all that money we give Ukraine is guns that We mobilize right here in America, we give them guns, not money at this stage, and our NATO allies have invested just as much in Ukraine as we have. That’s why, that’s why we are strong.
Bash: The center is moving directly east. In October, Hamas attacked Israel, killing more than 1000 people and taking a large number hostage. Those who have been captured and are believed to be still alive include five US citizens. Israel’s response has killed thousands of Palestinians and created a humanitarian crisis in Gaza. President Biden has made a proposal to resolve this war, but so far, Hamas has not released other hostages, and Israel continues its military aggression in Gaza. So what backup leverage would you use to get Hamas and Israel to end the conflict?
Biden: Primarily, everyone from the UN Security Council to the G7 to the Israelis and Netanyahu himself have recommended the plan I have put forward, which has three phases. The primary level is to search for hostages for a ceasefire. The 2d section is a ceasefire with backup positions. The third stage is the end of the conflict. The only person who wants the conflict to continue is Hamas… We are still trying to explain to them what has happened in between, in Israel? The one thing I ruled out were Israel’s 2000 pound bombs. They do not make good paintings on populated subjects. They shoot a group of innocent mobs. We are providing Israel with all the guns they want and when they want them. And by the way, I’m the guy who arranged the field against Iran when they launched a full intercontinental missile attack on Israel. No one was harmed, one Israeli was accidentally killed and it was prevented. We saved Israel. We are the largest producer of aid to Israel of anyone in the world. …and anyway, they’ve become very weak. Hamas became very weak. And so they must be, they must be eliminated, however you are given to monitor positive gun use among public facilities.
Trump: Just go to Ukraine again for a moment, we will be separated by an ocean. The EU countries together have spent $100 billion, or possibly more, less than us. Why doesn’t he tell their names? Let’s say you were asked to deposit your cash, as I did with NATO. I was given them to hold a large number of greenbacks worth billions of dollars. NATO Secretary General said that Trump did the most incredible thing which I have never hidden. You wouldn’t have it, they wouldn’t have anything else – they were going into bankruptcy. We were spending almost 100% of the money paid through us. He didn’t do that. …As far as Israel and Hamas are concerned, Israel is the one that wants to move forward. “The only person who wants to move forward is Hamas,” (Biden) said. Israel is really the only one, and you should let them travel and allow them to finish the activity. (Biden) doesn’t need to do that. He has become like a Palestinian, but they don’t like him because he is too impure Palestinian. He is a very sensitive person.
It continues from there. Both accuse each other of doing things that could destroy the country, but deny influence, if the truth be told both have a plan to keep it safe. Note, because the entire coverage of the evening is based on Biden’s health, and snap polls, and alternative speculation, keep in mind that the international coverage was the real horror of the night.
