Here’s what the drivers had to say after Sunday’s race, which set a NASCAR Cup Series record with five overtimes before Joey Logano won.

Joey Logano – Winner: “There’s a lot of teamwork there. You have to give a lot of credit to our fuel manufacturer, Nick Hensley, our engine department with Roush Yates has obviously built some engines that can manage fuel really well, and some courage – a lot of cajones Have done this. It’s been a tough season and being on that cutline, let me tell you, it sucks. This is no fun at all. It’s tough and you just want a little relief from the pressure and with seven weeks left until the playoffs it gives us a chance to breathe for a second and start working on our car a little differently and just sleep better. Takes, to be honest with you.”

Logano stops breathing after winning Nashville Cup

A relieved Joey Logano scored his first win of the Cup Series season at Nashville, surviving five overtime restarts and saving enough fuel to cross the line for the first time in the Alley 400 after a “stressful” few weeks.

Zane Smith – finished second: “I mean, obviously very happy with the outcome. But when you hear for about 10 laps ‘he should run out, he should run out’, and then you see him move the car across the line and you finish second, it hurts. The winning side of it is sad, but kudos to everyone at Spire Motorsports and the strategy there. I admire Jockey Outdoors and Luke Bryan; They are included with all of our other partners here in Nashville. It’s been a tough, tough year, but it’s a great momentum booster, confidence booster, all of the above. So, hopefully we can keep it going, but it was amazing to feel your first cup win.

Tyler Reddick – finished third: “I don’t know, the last set of tires didn’t give our Monster Energy Camry the balance all day that allowed it to compete for the lead there with Christopher Bell. Our restart was bad, I fell behind and I We were badly hurt in the closing laps. When the caution came out, we were going to lose all our track position. Had to because I don’t think we were able to hold on during the restart, but it ended up being the thing that gave us the chance to win the race. It was a great call, a bold call by crew chief Billy Scott in the situation we were in. I was upset by that, but stayed aggressive on the restart and I mean we got ourselves there, almost everything went right in the last leg, but I couldn’t finish the job. Found.”

Redick ‘didn’t get the job done’ in Nashville

Tyler Reddick expressed his disappointment at the conclusion of the NASCAR Cup Series race at Nashville, saying he “didn’t get the job done” after several front-runners ran out of gas at the end.

Ryan Preece – fourth place: “It wasn’t pretty. Track conditions were a tricky thing and it seemed like we were always on the other side of it, but once it mattered we were in the right place.

Chris Buescher – Finished 5th: “We had the ability to run in the top 10 all night and we scored stage points and got a good finish from it. I am still disappointed. In the end there was just chaos. I’ll have to go back and see what happened with everything obviously, but we didn’t get a chance to do a lot of racing. We were in good condition there. “After the sun went down our speed was good and the tires were as well, so we really wanted to go for some laps.”

Kyle Larson – Finished 8th: “There’s just a lot of madness at the end. There were a lot of cars running low on fuel and we were one of them. Just very messed up. On the first restart, I was just trying to wash Denny (Hamlin) off the bottom so I could get some clean air and give myself a chance to win. I felt like I would not get any chance from second place. I just tried to run with it and actually threw myself into Ross (Chastain), which caused the accident. And then on the next restart, I just got out of shape and almost caused a crash. On the third, we ran out of fuel during takeoff. We had some good restarts at the end. Happy to be in the top 10, but a little disappointed how it happened.

Larson ‘disappointed’ despite finishing in top 10

Kyle Larson finished eighth in the Cup Series race at Nashville after multiple overtime restarts and he repeated the incident with Ross Chastain as well as Denny Hamlin racing aggressively.

Daniel Hemric – finished 9th: “Really today was another example of our season. It’s been a roller-coaster ride. We struggled with low speed issues on the No. 31 Cirque Chevrolet all weekend. After the rain delay and some good adjustments, I thought if we got the track conditions, we’d be fine. Eventually we found it and got into an accident. I felt like every corner of the car was broken. Somehow, someway, the oceans parted. We were able to make some good restarts at the end and cross the line in ninth. What a weekend, but I’ll take it.”

Noah Gragson – Finished 10th: “We saved a tonne of fuel just to get to 10th. 110 rounds on one tank of fuel. We pushed it to the absolute max and got another top-10. Proud of everyone’s work on this racecar.”

AJ Allmendinger – Finished 11th: “A long, hard day of struggle. I felt like we improved the race car as the race went on. We were not able to get track position there till the end. Unfortunately, that strategy didn’t work. We were able to forget all the mishaps, get our laps back, and make the most of our day. Overall, something that we can learn with fun. Nice finish for both cars. Good day for the race team.”

Denny Hamlin – Finished 12th: “We ran outside taking precautions. (Chris Gebehart, crew chief) was monitoring the fuel pressure. I told him what the fuel pressure was. We were fine, just ran out of gas and did it out of caution. It was the right call. I was out of gas going down the pitlane. I’m surprised we accomplished so many green-white-checkers, honestly. Of course, there’s the stench at the end of being 15 seconds from the win and then 10 seconds from the win and then finishing 12th. “It’s just a part of it.”

Hamlin: Multiple OT restarts ‘just part of it’

Denny Hamlin battled his fuel to the end but ultimately ended up under the final caution, opening a chaotic end to the NASCAR Cup Series race at Nashville Superspeedway.

Chase Briscoe – Finished 21st: “The last 70 laps I was in the worst position from a strategy perspective, the way it played out. We had to drop back to 30th or so because of how the strategy worked out and the cautions went down and we were able to move back to 15th or so. At the end there, you don’t really expect three or four green-white-checkers, so we ran out of fuel taking the white flag. Whenever you’re in there in contention it definitely stinks. I thought I had a good shot to potentially win the race in the second-to-last race and we finished 21st or something like that. It’s disappointing but that’s part of it.”

Josh Berry – Finished 26th: “Today was a difficult day. We had a rough start and couldn’t balance, but my team worked hard to get me the car I needed and after a rain delay we finally got the car. We got a lot of spots back and had the far more competitive No. 4 Ford Mustang Dark Horse. In the end there was just chaos. We tried to navigate all those restarts and finally got stuck in. It was a pity that we couldn’t finish well this week in Nashville, which was my home race, but we learned a lot.”

Kyle Busch – Finished 27th: “I am proud of the Zone team and everyone at RCR for their effort today. We struggled early but our guys kept making changes to our Zone Camaro throughout the race. Randall Burnett made great calls to put us in position to finish in the top five. Those cautions at the end of the race and in overtime really worked against us because we were close to fuel. On that last restart, we were in fourth place when the No. 5 (Kyle Larson) ran out of fuel right ahead of me and I had nowhere to go. It’s definitely disappointing but we’ll be back in Chicago next week.”

Cup field disrupted after Larson runs out of gas

Kyle Larson ran out of fuel as soon as the green flag came on the third overtime restart at Nashville Superspeedway, with Kyle Busch suffering the most damage.

Austin Dillon – Finished 32nd: “Our luck is incredible. We kicked off today at Nashville Superspeedway with the fast No. 3 Brazetree Aerosphere® Chevrolet. Even though our handling started to slip away midway through the race, crew chief Justin Alexander and the entire RCR team worked hard to improve our Chevrolet’s balance and by the end of the race it felt pretty good. We were running 11th when the caution flag came out on Stage 3 and we made the call to pit for the right side tires, knowing we would run out of fuel if we stayed out. Upon restarting, a car directly in front of us overturned and we had nowhere to go. This ended our night and ruined our chances of reaching the top-10. It’s not the finish we deserved or hoped for, but I’m proud of this team for getting a solid Chevy out to the track. We’ll be competing in the Chicago Street Race next week and hoping for some better luck.”

Michael McDowell – finished 35th: “I just came out of Turn 4 and I thought maybe the driveshaft broke or something, but it was actually in the transaxle. Something broke and there was a hole in the side of the case. This is not what we wanted. We were saving a really nice day, so it was unfortunate.

Christopher Bell – finished 36th: “By going to the first stage I have put myself in a very bad position. I got stuck there and lost my temper to do something and I put myself in a bad situation and passed out.

Bell’s dominance ends in Nashville after spin

Christopher Bell cruises the stages of Nashville Superspeedway, but a spin through traffic in Stage 3 sends the No. 20 into the outside wall and effectively ends his bid at back-to-back Cup Series wins .

Riley Herbst – finished 37th: “It felt like (Corey LaJoie) was running a little harder than me, but I had fun. It was a fun day. this was good. I have learned a lot.”
